Pattinson REMEMBERED her!? OK, this girl has used up her allotment of Rob Pattinson face-time…

Remember the hysterically funny fan encounter where Rob bought the girl markers? Well, she got to see him again, this being her 3rd time now, and this time he remembered her! How fun. Who doesn’t dream of that!?

Read the story of StewyLove’s 3rd encounter, this time at the Remember Me Premier in the UK:

Fan encounter number 3, Remember Me Premiere

17th March, Leicester Square, London.
The 17th March was supposed to be the day I attend my university visit day. This being the university I wish to go to this coming September. Then Summit go and decided ‘oh let’s have the Remember Me Premiere in London on the 17th March’. Not cool Summit not cool. So I ended up sacrificing my education to go (bit extreme, but yeah I blame Rob if I fail school!).

I got up at an ungodly hour to get a 2 hour train journey to London. How I managed to stay alive when I’d had 3 hours sleep was beyond me but I made it, then trekked down to Leicester Square (I’m getting good at this ’getting around London’ business, I didn’t even have to ask anyone directions. ;D)

I met up with a few friends and the wait began. It wasn’t as cold as the NM fan event so I was satisfied to sit on the floor and play games on the iPod. Wearing my pink coat as usual, a few girls actually approached me asking if I went to the NM event, because they recognised me. (I just love my coat, it never fails to bring attention).

After a million hours of waiting and a numb bum, the security started to come out and set up. After a 10 minute (literally) fight to stand up, I got up and prepared for another long wait, squished up against the barrier. (Yeah I love standing at the front, it’s fun ;D). But it was okay, staring at this giant poster was entertaining.

The day dragged on, then they started putting the red carpet and that just excited me. Only then did I discover I was standing opposite the press, me and my pink coat didn’t like this because me + video sweeps of the crowd = not good. Did you see the NM one I posted? Yeah, my face isn’t a pretty sight when it’s fangirling *is ashamed of self* Coming home to find this posted to me on Facebook multiple times wasn’t fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWDlyqnhNv4 from 1:21… yeah that’s me and my pink coat. The camera would stop on me, pfft.

Time continued to drag, then the ‘no bodies’ started to arrive. Don’t get me wrong, I got excited but you know everyone was just waiting to see a messy mop of hair pop out of one of the cars. Whilst the wait continued the twins from Skins came out, Megan and Kathryn Prescott. They were the only ones I found interesting. Plus my friend is a big Skins Twins fan so I had to take multiple pictures just for her. (I’m a good friend I am!)

So yeah, fast forward whilst they all went in, Emilie de Ravin arrived (I felt bad for her since no one screamed or anything when she got out the car, bad times). But still, she looked super pretty and was just lovely in general.

However all the quietness changed when the man himself got out. And even though I knew Stew wouldn’t be there because she had The Runaways Premiere (there’s a time difference, she could of made it! ;D) I died inside a little when she actually wasn’t there. But anyway, Robert, WOW is the only word I can think to describe the screams. I’ve never heard so many in my life. It was actually quite scary. I then got pushed even further into the barrier (yeah me and the barrier became best friends by the end of the night, me being pushed up against said barrier all day tends to make want to befriend inanimate objects).

I then realised that he was walking over towards where I was, he only went and got interviewed right in front of me. (If you take any of these pictures, credit me please, it took concentration taking these ;D Bahaha).

Yup he was standing this close. I had to back up a bit to take these pictures because he was so close. All through the interview he was his usual adorable self and his hand did not stay out of his hair for more than 5 seconds (not that I was complaining).

And my favourite picture of Rob ever! Which I just so happened to take (seriously it’s so lovely)… brace yourself…

HOW ****ING CUTE IS THIS PICTURE. It just sums Rob up. Beautiful, adorable, gorgeous and many other describing words. If I could make a dictionary, I would make sure this picture was the definition of beautiful. <3

So yeah fangirling over. After I had fun taking a million and one pictures of him, he went away to start interviews with the press. Boo! However, when he was getting interviewed opposite me I decided to become a full on perv and take pictures of that beautiful man’s bum. *smiles sweetly*

Perv time over. ;D So after a long wait whilst he doing interviews, actually funny, you could tell when someone would mention Kristen because someone just jump in like NO! Bahaha. He just can’t get a break. :’) Anyway, he came over near us. Yay. Good times. However, getting even further squished into the barrier and books and picture threw in my face was bad times. I could just about see. Crazy fangirls behind me were set on killing me I swear.

So anyways he comes over near us, trying to sign everyone’s objects (bless him) and I go and do the silly thing of asking him for a picture. He stops and gets attacked by everything. Books, pictures, wouldn’t be surprised if there was kitchen utensils being shoved in his face. So many objects, which all happened to be hitting me in the head, the face, the ear. Ouch times. But anyway, he said ’sure’ and smiled at me. *melts inside*

People clearly didn’t get the point that they needed to back up and continued to throw their shit at him whilst we was trying to take a picture with me. So being the dear he is, he asked them nicely to move their stuff out my face. NAWWWWWWWWW. And even moved a few objects from hitting me in the head. He then said ‘learn over here a bit more’ so I could actually be seen in the picture. Then, then, then, then the best thing happened. Ever.

He looked at me then said ‘you know, we really have to stop meeting like this, people are gonna start to talk’ *squeals like a fangirl* I just smiled. What do you say to things like that? We’re obviously BFF’s now. Bahahahaha. ;D The fact that he remembered me… at the Remember Me premiere is an epic win. So he went about getting a picture with me, I said thankyou, he smiled and continued with the picture signing. All in all it was amazing.

My picture with Rob… Ahh, I’ve never felt so sick in my life. My excuse (and yeah it is a valid excuse) is that I had been up since 4am, with 3 hours sleep and camping out all day until 6/7pm. That my friends is why I look so god damn awful on the picture. But do you know what? I don’t care. Because…
I got a picture with Robert Pattinson and he remembers me. How many people can say that?

(My friend’s picture fail of me getting a picture with Rob. I see you Rob tongue.)

And finally, Roberto and myself, looking like a fool but ah well, look at Rob! ;D

Oooh and, and, and I also got a board again. I have no where to put it (Poor Tyler and Ally being homeless on my bedroom floor ;D) But I love it all the more.

As always, if you read all of this, thankyou, I really, really like you. It’s not as interesting as my other stories (lacking the Stew ;D) but it made my day. No, actually my year. 2009 was hug the Stew year, 2010 is Rob remembers me and buys me pens year.

Box office numbers are stating to look pretty darn solid for Rob Pattinson’s Remember Me, despite all the initially dire predictions! Remember when they were predicting it would barely make $8 million?
Box Office Mojo shows a lower worldwide total as of April 12 than this article, at just over $29 million. I can’t explain the discrepancy, but either way, it is well past the movie’s cost to make.

Pretty boy “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson got a little roughed up by the film critics for his movie “Remember Me,” with Emilie de Ravin. But Rob may be getting the last laugh now that the box office numbers are rolling in.

“Remember Me,” about a troubled youth attempting to deal with tragedy, is slowly working its way around the world, opening in such far flung country as Argentina and Australia.

So far, the film has grossed $45.7 million at the box office, which obviously isn’t anything close to 3-D blockbuster “Avatar’s” billion dollar plus take. But “Remember Me” only cost $16 million to bring to the big screen.

Experts predict the film could do as much as $60 million worldwide, when all is said and done. In relative terms, that makes it a box office success, especially for a film that received lackluster reviews, mainly for the plot.

Rob felt a special connection to the film and felt it was something that had to be made. But the shear force of his popularity is probably driving the numbers.

Pattinson stars as Tyler Hawkins, who lives in posh Manhattan but is estranged from his successful father (Pierce Brosnan). Tyler is alienated and resentful, but he soon finds someone he can relate to. (Emilie de Ravin).

The film also includes Lena Olin, Ruby Jerins, Chris Cooper and Tate Ellington. “Remember Me” was directed by Allen Coulter from a screenplay by Will Fetters, and they are getting most of the bad press.

In its worldwide trek, the film opened in Argentina, France and other European countries this past weekend, and was a hit in Paris. It came in at No. 6 in the City of Light, which is not bad for an American film.

The drama’s international weekend take was $4.7 million at 2,302 screens in 36 territories, bringing its international box office to $27 million.

The film made back its money before even going overseas. So far it has grossed $18.7 million in North America, bringing the total to $45.7 million.

The film’s top foreign markets before last weekend’s openings were surprisingly Russia ($3.15m), Italy, ($2.35m), Germanyn ($1.9m), Brazil, ($1.71) the UK/Ireland ($1.5m) and Australia ($1.21m).

Going foward, the film will open in several other countries, from Chile in South America to Turkey.

And it has yet to open in several top Asian markets, such as China, Japan, and South Korea.

All in all, not a bad showing for a small indie film, and Rob’s first outing as a lead in a movie outside of the “Twilight” series — and without Kristen Stewart.

Robert Pattinson’s REMEMBER ME: $10.5 Million Foreign Box Office
by Michelle Hutton

Robert Pattinson’s romantic drama Remember Me has taken in approximately $10.5 million at the international box office up to March 28, 2010, according to figures found at Box Office Mojo. (Australia and Bulgaria, March 21.)

After being greeted by mixed-to-negative reviews, Remember Me has earned a total of $17.7 million in the United States/Canada up to April 1. Its worldwide cume currently stands at about $28.2 million — actually more than that; as stated above, international figures are one week behind.

To date, Remember Me’s top international markets have been Russia* with $3.159 million, Brazil with $1.476 million, Italy with $1.043 million, Australia with $916K (March 21), and Germany with $843K. Apparently, Robert Pattinson has a large following in those countries.

Next in line are Greece (423K), Sweden ($405K), Poland ($333K), Mexico ($270K), Portugal ($229K), and New Zealand/Fiji ($216K).

Remember Me, which was executive produced by Pattinson, officially cost $16 million. Summit Entertainment should get about half of the film’s worldwide gross (if $28.3 million, that would mean approximately $14 million or so for the studio; the box-office split, however, can vary depending on the film and the territories where it has played).

As I’ve said in previous posts, even after including advertising and distribution costs, Remember Me will most likely end up in the black after worldwide box-office rentals and ancillary revenues are added up.

In fact, this latest Robert Pattinson vehicle is already close to covering its production costs at the global box-office even though it’s just now opening in major markets such as the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Spain.

Remember Me has yet to open in Japan, China, France, South Korea, Denmark, Turkey, and Argentina and many other large and mid-size territories.

Vanity Fair (2004)

Your big break, and your scenes are left scorching the editing room floor. That’s Hollywood for you!
Mr Pattinson’s first major role saw him appearing in the updated, Reese Witherspoon-headed Vanity Fair as Rawdy Crawley.
His big moment comes in the graveyard scene, where he pouts and looks generally moody and miffed, frilled up something chronic. You can find it in the DVD’s deleted scenes.
The Do: The famous quiff puts in an early appearance, though the do’s shorter than usual.

Ring Of The Nibelungs (2004)

TV flick that used Norse mythology as a springboard for a lot of chatter about Dragon-Slaying and the like. Pattinson’s fee funded his tuition at the Harrodian School in barnes.
R-Patz is Giselher, the king’s brother, who stows away on a voyage to Iceland. He wears a lot of Medieval-type clothing, and a lot of leather. There is actually smiling involved, which is a shock for anybody who’s not seen anything of Pattinson pre-Twilight.
The Do: It’s mullet time! Long, blonder than ever, and very pretty indeed. Nasty fringe, though.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire (2005)

Nabbing a role in The Little Franchise That Could, Pattinson plays Cedric Diggory (or should that be Deadric?), the famously tragic figure who falls at the hand of You-Know-Who.
His performance landed him the British Star of Tomorrow award from The Times, and by all accounts Patz had a good time filming how to scuba dive for the part. Oh, and he lied in his audition, saying that he loved football so he’d get the role. Bad boy.
The Do: Posh, side-swept boys’ school look befitting of somebody called Cedric. It’s about as dangerous as a kitten in a bow.

The Haunted Airman (2006)

R-Patz finds his way around a wheelchair for another TV movie, based on Dennis Wheatley’s ‘40s occult thriller, The Haunting Of Toby Jugg.
At the time, it was a fresh, riveting idea. A disabled British airman recovers from his time in battle. Pattinson’s version was funded by the BBC and aired on BBC4 in October 2006. His performance won fans in The Stage mag, who credited his performance, which incorporated “youthful terror and world weary cynicism”.
The Do: The Cedric do’s still there. Eee, isn’t he posh?

The Bad Mother’s Handbook (2007)

Another TV film, this one alongside Catherine Tate for ITV. It’s an adaptation of the bestseller of the same name by Kate Long. He plays the boyfriend of Holly Grainger’s Charlie, whose only gone and got herself pregnant.
Stateside, ABC are planning their own TV series based on the book, with the decidedly more glamorous Alicia Silverstone to star. We doubt Patz will be involved.
The Do: Oh dear God, make it stop! Painfully floppy curtains render R-Patz nothing more than a big, walking night-hair. Needs a serious trim.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix (2007)

Wait just one cotton picking minute, didn’t Patz die in the last HP outing? Ah, sorry Patties, there’s no resurrection for his manly Deadric. He just appears in a photograph.
It’s little more than a cameo, but a sweet one at that.
“Sometimes I think, ‘To hell with acting,’” the actor says. “And then I realize I could be working at a shoe shop. Acting is much cooler.”
The Do: A repeat of the young, gentlemanly cut he favoured in Goblet Of Fire.

The Summer House (2008)

A short film from the London Academy, Summer House might as well have been the role that convinced the Twilight producers that he was right for Edward Cullen.
After all, he plays a dark, persuasive stalker-type who falls head-over-heels in love with a dark-haired young lady and tries everything to woo her. He’s got a bit of a Hollywood tan here; lovely.
The Do: Still long, sort of a cross between the remains of a dead rat and an aging rocker.

How to Be (2008)

Patz shows off his skill with a guitar playing the odd-named Art (we’re guessing that’s short for Artemidoros or Arthgallo), a sort of transient low-life who means well, but seems to end up annoying everybody despite himself.
It was first released at the IFC Festival in April 2009 after having been on a screening tour. Patz won a Best Actor award at the Strasbourg Film Festival.
The Do: Dreadful! Curtains are worse than their debut in Bad Mother’s Handbook, and the eyebrows are out of control.

Little Ashes (2008)

Pattinson stretches those acting chops and makes out with a boy. In your face, Bella.
He plays infamous boundary-busting artist Salvador Dalí in the 1922-set tale, who allegedly had a gay affair with poet Federico García Lorca while studying at university in Madrid. There’s a bit where he puts his thing between his legs like Buffalo Bill in The Silence Of The Lambs.
It has been nominated for a prize at the 21st GLAAD Media Awards.
The Do: It’s all about that crazy moustache and the greasy, slicked back hair.

Twilight (2008)

Hard to believe that there was a Twi-hard outcry when news of Pattinson’s casting was first announced. He beat 3,000 brooding hopefuls to the role.
Pattinson says the film “is a metaphor for the virtues of chastity, but it’s had the opposite effect. I get letters that say, ‘I’m going to kill myself if you don’t watch High School Musical 2 with me.’ It’s a little nuts.” Poor Patz.
The Do: That’s more like it. Patz finds his trademark do and makes teenage boys go running to the ‘dressers while forgetting how they took the piss out of the girls for doing the same with The Rachel.

New Moon (2009)

A diminished role for the first Twilight sequel, as Edward dumps his beloved Bella and she goes off with some wolf fella who hates wearing shirts.
It’s Patz’s favourite book in the series. He reportedly refused to have his unruly eyebrows waxed as much as in the first film.
Rumours persist that he and co-star Kristen Stewart are having a secret affair. Nobody’s talking – they don’t even talk to each other in public much.
The Do: A slightly longer, slightly darker variant on the original (to make him a bit grumpier, maybe).

Remember Me (2010)

This is the flick that Patz was filming when he was hit by a car attempting to escape screaming fans. During a break in shooting, he attempted to get away from over-zealous nutjobs and got clipped by a car. Luckily he was fine.
Hollywoodland director Allen Coulter helms this indie romance, in which moody 21-year-old Tyler (Patz) falls in love with Ally (Emilie de Ravin), who lives each day as if it were her last after witnessing her mother’s murder. Cheery stuff.
The Do: He’s found his style now, rocking the short look and making us all look damned unfashionable.

“I remember being outside the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan. We were shooting in the Oak Room and there were 2,000 girls out there from 12 to 21. Actually, there were some gorgeous looking girls out there, but they weren’t around my caravan. I had the mothers at my end and some beauties there were too! But it was very sedate by my end of the motor homes. I’d walk out and get a hearty cheer. I’d trip up the steps of the Plaza feeling very good with myself that I still have the juice. But as I’d be walking down the corridors into the Plaza I would hear this wave, this cacophony of sound as girls clamoured for Robert. His girls go through the rafters for him.”

One of the best little interviews with Rob Pattinson I’ve read in a while is this new one from La Provincia, translated by Twilight Poison. Thanks to both.

How do you interpret this comment Rob made about Eclipse – “I just hope the expectation doesn’t overshadow the movie itself, because the third installment won’t be very different from the first two.”?

Is your character in RM the closest interpretation of your on personality?
No. I think it’s impossible to represent yourself being fully aware of what you’re trying to do. I try to choose characters that are not like me at all. The more unknown they are to me, the better I can play them because then I don’t feel vulnerable.

Do you like the tortured characters?
Those are the ones that I’m being offered. Subconsciously I try to be like my characters, and I live my fantasies through them. I’d love to be a confused young person that fights for his ideals, but I’m not like that.

Everyone beats him up in RM.
I prefer to be hit than hitting. It’s more interesting.

How would you describe the movie?
It’s a movie about a life style, about love and the desire to live. The story is told through the eyes of Tyler, who is not aware of the consequences of the relationships he has.

Trauma seems to be everyone’s bond in the movie.
Yes, all the characters in the movie have faced death somehow, losing a family member. So there’s a connection with them through grief.

This is your first movie since New Moon, is that a relief?
Yes. I wanted to do a smaller film. Something with a modest budget that I could film in between filming the Twilight movies. I wanted a story that was more realistic because I was getting a bit tired of the fantasy genre. I needed to play a regular character that faced normal issues.

Do you feel the pressure of fame now?
Yes, and the industry’s pressure as well. It’s almost like everybody is looking at me. Some people are just waiting to see me crash and burn, others are convinced that I’m going to make it. But in any case, I don’t care about people’s expectations. I’m the only one who has to worry about my career.

Eclipse is right around the corner…
I know. And I’m a little angry because people will forget about my performance in Remember Me, and keep the idea they had before about me. I thought Eclipse would come out 3 months after RM, but no. I just hope the expectation doesn’t overshadow the movie itself, because the third installment won’t be very different from the first two.

Mattel has a doll with your image, there’s unauthorized biographies of you, photographers follow you everywhere. Do you feel like a brand?
Yes. Fame can be a monster that consumes your life. The only thing that bothers me is people who think they know me and try to relate to a determined image of me.
I don’t mind if Hollywood sees me as the tortured teenager. I’ll change that perception with my work.
In this industry all they care about is that you make money. It doesn’t matter if you’re the next super-hero, or the next vampire, of the next lead in a romantic comedy.

Is it hard to rest after so much attention?
It’s very hard. There’s nothing I can do but try to find moments of peace, otherwise I’d go insane. It’s annoying when people scream for you on the streets or on the supermarket, or when you’re with your friends at a pub. I appreciate my fans and their support, I’m thankful and I know I wouldn’t be where I am without them. The most annoting part is living with 100 photographers outside my house, because they never stop, I live hiding from them.

Text of the interview from TimesOnline:

Would I like to interview Robert Pattinson, the world’s hottest young actor? Yes, obviously — although getting close to the boy who plays the “devastatingly, inhumanly beautiful” vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight at first seems virtually impossible. Penned away in the Dorchester, like a rare Siberian tiger cub — he can’t stay at home in Barnes when he comes back from LA because the fans know where he lives — he is being firmly guarded by a brace of film execs when I arrive for the interview.

A spiky PR woman for his new film, Remember Me — a romantic drama memorable mainly for the fact that it has Pattinson in it and is not a Twilight film — loudly repeats instructions that there are to be “no personal questions”. A Spanish reporter returns from the interview room claiming that when she asked him if he liked cooking, she nearly got thrown out. Another, a Brazilian, reveals that, in fact, he did get thrown out of an interview with Pattinson’s Twilight co-star and rumoured girlfriend, Kristen Stewart, back in Sao Paulo, for asking about boyfriends. “Her bodyguard asked me to leave,” he shrieks. “I said nao! And then he tosched me on the shoulder, and I said, ‘Okay, I go.’”

“Like, who the ferque is this diva?” says someone else, and by the time I am ushered next door to meet him, I’m thinking the same. But as soon as I clap eyes on him, and take in that kittenish smile, the tousled, leonine eyebrows and — of course — the lush whip of unwashed hair, all that instantly vanishes. Pattinson is calm, polite and pleasant: heaven on a stick.

Swigging nonchalantly from a large bottle of Hildon like Stoli at a Facebook house party, he is also utterly oblivious to the commotion outside. And as for being a diva, well, let’s just say his agent, a jaded LA type who sits in the room with him, is far from impressed with his attempts so far, rolling his eyes when Pattinson asks: “Nick, am I a diva?” The actor furrows his brow. “I mean, I had a very diva-ish conversation with some people about some stuff in this film about a day ago…” Nick sighs and drawls: “He just said what he thought in a script meeting. Please don’t use that as an example.”

“But I was very… bold,” protests Pattinson. Of course, that is exactly what he isn’t, because ever since his first knicker-melting appearance in Twilight, Pattinson, 23, has become a byword for shy hotness. Formerly a public-school hoodie from southwest London with a bit part in Harry Potter, he now commands £8m a movie and is such a huge lust object that he is unable to go anywhere unattended. During the filming of Remember Me, “3,500 people turned up and went completely mental”, he says. He is constantly asked for kisses and autographs, and recently, when he joked that the best way to get his attention was to take your clothes off, to his horror one girl in the audience promptly did so. Does he find the attention irritating? He shrugs. “I guess it’s part of your reality,” he says, before admitting he’s a “little bit harder to deal with” now. “I get stressed out much quicker.”

Then again, being beautiful “is quite hard”, even though he insists that 50% of people don’t get his appeal: “They’re like, what’s that all about?” Certainly, today, he is trying his best not to be beautiful, in a greasy cap and sweats. Only his eyebrows seem manicured, although he insists they aren’t. He had them plucked on the first Twilight film, but “you get to the point where you think, ‘Okay, I look like a transvestite now’”. Not that the girls — Twilight’s obsessed fans are called Twiharders, and a documentary, Robsessed, has been made about them — were put off.

Over the past 18 months, the actor has been linked to countless models and actresses, and recently appeared to confirm the rumours that he was dating Stewart, but then mysteriously claimed that he was “allergic to vagina”. Er, what was that about? Is he dating Stewart then? Or is he, in fact, gay? I heard his two older sisters used to dress him up and call him Claudia when he was a boy.

Actually, he’s “straight”, he says. He found the male-on-male sex scenes he had to perform in a film, Little Ashes, last year “strange. I played Salvador Dali. We were both straight, but he was Spanish, so much more confident about being naked and stuff, although when it comes down to it, it’s just as awkward with a girl, especially if you are straight and with a girl you don’t like… Anyway, Javier was really cool. After we had been pretending to have sex on this balcony in Barcelona, he was like, ‘We have such a strange job…’”

Poor Pattinson! Eyeing the bed in his suite, I dare a question about those sex scenes with girls. He famously had to pop a Valium to get through the audition for Twilight, in which he needed to make out on a bed with Stewart. For the love scenes in Remember Me, his co-star Emilie de Ravin “was very, very, very comfortable”, he sighs. “I’m always the one who’s the most uncomfortable. So we came into the room, and they said ‘It’s a closed set,’ blah, blah, and we got on to the bed and the director was like, ‘I got you these things, if just maybe you wanted to use them. You don’t have to use them, maybe it will make you more comfortable.’ They were these bondage things: lube and handcuffs and porn videos. It was so funny!

“And when you end up doing it, you have this little patch on your privates. I didn’t really tape it up properly, so I’d spent so long taping it round myself and then literally it falls off within one second and it’s taped to the sheet. And you realise the whole crew are looking directly at your butt crack.” He blanches. “I can’t think of anything exciting for them about this. It gives you a lot of respect for porn stars.”

I decide to dive in and ask him about Stewart. Does he believe in love at first sight? “Yes,” he says. Has he… ever been in love? “Ah, yes, I think so.” “What’s…” Nick looks up from his BlackBerry. “Let’s keep to the film,” he snaps. Pattinson looks embarrassed, but the moment has passed, and I am to leave. He gets up and gives me a kiss on the cheek: light and soft and not at all unfresh. I read somewhere one girl’s parents paid £20,000 in a charity auction for one of those.

I know this article is controversial and maybe a bit of a harsh, but I thought you’d all like to add your voice to the discussion, both good and bad. As Cinematical asks at the end of their article, is Rob Pattinson “destined to become this generation’s Mark Hamill”?

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland remains queen of the box office, but Robert Pattinson’s romantic drama, Remember Me, raked in an underwhelming $3,300,000 on 2,215 screens during its second weekend — for a paltry total of $13,900,000. Even more shocking is that it came in at number 10 under the practically unheard of Our Family Wedding, which begs the question — why is one of the hottest male stars raking in forgettable box office numbers?

Granted, $13.9 million isn’t the end of the world since Emilie de Ravin’s tale about a rebellious young man who meets the love of his life after a family tragedy only had a budget of $16 million — but it certainly suggests that Robert Pattinson isn’t the draw for fans, but the character Edward Cullen is. People fell in love with Cullen while reading Stephanie Meyer’s books and then became enamored with Pattinson through the films. Finally, legions of fangirls had their immortal boyfriend personified on screen and the spell seems near impossible to break. Pattinson’s young female fan base doesn’t really want to see him falling in love with anyone other than Bella and his character Tyler in Remember Me wasn’t the hopeless romantic clamoring for his lady love — in fact, previews for the film looked seriously depressing and far too dreary for the teen crowd that has come to adore him.

So, can Robert Pattinson have a successful career after the Twilight series ends? What’s the best way for him to transition from Edward to another character? Does he need to choose a completely different role or will that cause his fan base to abandon him entirely? Or is he destined to become this generation’s Mark Hamill — for example, so linked to a single character that no one wants to risk casting him in anything besides movies featuring glittery vampires?

Seems there is a lot of controversy over the ending of Remember Me. Moviefone has a great article about it, which you can read below. If you want to chime in with your opinion, feel free!

While it might have initially seemed like Robert Pattinson’s latest movie, ‘Remember Me,’ would be generating controversy and debate over whether it proves that the ‘Twilight’ star has real acting chops, it has actually caused a big stir among critics and audiences because of its incredibly dramatic (and some feel overwrought) final minutes.
Its big twist seems to be overshadowing the rest of the picture for some and is undoubtedly drawing attention away from the fact that, despite its low 27% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the film features solid performances from Pattinson and co-star Emilie de Ravin (’Lost’).

(SPOILER ALERT! If you have not seen the film and do not want to know the ending, read no further as the climax is revealed and discussed in detail below.)

In the film, Pattinson plays Tyler, a troubled NYU student who lives in a grungy Manhattan apartment despite coming from an affluent home. He is coping with the loss of his older brother, who committed suicide, and when he meets a fellow student named Ally (de Ravin), who saw her mother gunned down by a mugger when she was 5, he finds an equally damaged soulmate. The two both have family issues to contend with — her overprotective cop father (Chris Cooper), his emotionally estranged lawyer father (Pierce Brosnan) — as well as the fact Tyler dated Ally initially on a mean-spirited dare from an obnoxious friend (which blows up in his face when he actually falls for her).

By the climax of the film, a lot of family bonding has ensued, and the two lovers have started to heal the rift between them. Then, when Tyler is waiting for his father in his law office (on their own way to making amends), we see him looking out of the window, hopefully. The camera cranes back, and we see that Tyler’s standing in one of The World Trade Center’s Twin Towers. It’s then spelled out — literally, on a chalkboard in his little sister’s classroom — that the date is Sept. 11, 2001, and it’s obvious what’s going to happen next. When the devastation comes, it is implied rather than graphically depicted. Still, the event packs ‘Remember Me’ with a big wallop that has infuriated some viewers and moved others.

Critics have vastly different opinions about the film’s jarring denouement:

Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers declared in his capsule review: “It’s all weepy drool until the twist ending, which is shockingly offensive.”

Lisa Kennedy of the Denver Post assessed: “The finale manages to be tasteful and exploitative at the same time. It touts forgiveness while being mildly infuriating. Such is the danger of borrowing from the enormous to merely entertain. If that. Forgettable should be the last thing a movie touching on the events of 9/11 should be. Yet ‘Remember Me’ is just that.”

Stephen Whitty of Newark’s Star-Ledger, who liked the film, revealed in his review: “Movie fans should know that the story takes an abrupt third-act twist and tacks on the sort of arbitrary, ’significant’ ending that’s better left to first-year creative-writing assignments.”

Rebecca Murray of About.com observed: “Even if you disapprove of just where the film goes, the story building up to the final climatic twist is moving and real.”

Manohla Dargis of the New York Times, who liked Pattinson’s performance, stated: “Along the way, many people die but few matter: most are just part of the warm-up act as well as the means to a shamelessly exploitative end.”

Boo Allen of the Denton Record Chronicle charged: “‘Remember Me’ wallows deepest in shame by concluding its treacly treatise by drawing on the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in a final plea for emotion. Unforgivable.”

Audiences seem a little more forgiving. In the ‘Remember Me’ user reviews page on Moviefone, MissPink1189 writes, “This movie has definitely changed my life … Some say too soon for an ending like that, but it just makes the story that much better.” Jenniebruan22 wrote that she lives in New York, “and I didn’t find the end distasteful at all. In fact it made me see the movie in a much more profound way.” Says ARod73: “The surprise ending leaves a lasting [message] of living life with a purpose , embracing the small moments of happiness and not waiting to tell someone how you feel, tell them now.” Still, Dmachone thinks, “The ending of this movie is unbelievably out of line.”

It is understandable that some people found the ending shocking — there are many New Yorkers and those beyond who lost someone in the 9/11 tragedy — but when critics use words like “unforgivable” and “offensive,” it not only condemns the filmmakers of outright exploitation and tastelessness, but it seems to render the subject taboo in some manner. While for most people the ending will come as a shock, it does add some emotional impact to the story. Could a smaller tragedy have sufficed in place of the Twin Tower collapse? Probably, but somehow utilizing an event that all of us feel connected to adds further impact to the story, and it also contemplates the idea of how many other deeply interwoven stories ended on that fateful day, and what they were like.

One can argue that the inclusion of 9/11 is unnecessary and insensitive, and that such a major public trauma did not need to be part of the film’s more intimate story. One could also argue that the film does not linger long on or exploit images of the devastation. We do not see the planes hit the towers, but we do see the smoldering buildings from a distance and watch most of the film’s characters looking towards downtown Manhattan in horror, knowing that Tyler is trapped there. We see his diary landing amid the rubble. The events are not used to make a political statement, but a personal one, although they are rendered within an unexpected plot twist that has left many people feeling uneasy or angry.

The filmmakers undoubtedly knew their ending would be polarizing, and Summit Entertainment took a gamble with it. A safe bet would have been to film a less controversial finale. By the same token, ‘Remember Me’ focuses on the tragedy that befalls us when we live our lives full of conflict, anger and bitterness and fail to appreciate the happy and joyous moments when they come — or to learn to forgive, make amends and move forward with our lives. And how many of us appreciated those sentiments more after the horrifying shock of 9/11?

‘Remember Me’ is not the first and will certainly not be the last film to incorporate 9/11 into a cinematic storyline. Like most major tragedies and wartime events, it will undoubtedly be filtered through a pop culture lens well into the future. It is 2010, and we are still making movies about the Holocaust and WWII (for example), and some of them have certainly been politically incorrect and generated debate. Perhaps ‘Remember Me’ director Allen Coulter and screenwriter Will Fetters were thinking about this when they created this story and brought it to the screen. Or perhaps not. (Coulter has said he was initially tentative about using the ending.)

At least they have us talking, not only about the film’s message, but how we are still polarized by and dealing with the aftermath of a major catastrophic event. The emotional conflict that it has stirred is in keeping with the spirit of the film. Better that reaction than indifference.

The Huffington Post has actually admitted that maybe, just maybe, Rob Pattinson has what it takes to be a star. They weren’t wild about Remember Me but “if he can open Remember Me to $8.3 million all by himself, he may just be a movie star.”

(We thought it odd that they brought out the trailer the day before, too. Shooting yourself in the foot comes to mind.)

The most oddly-high profile release of the weekend was the romantic drama Remember Me. Of course, the film was seen by many as a test of Twilight star Robert Pattinson’s draw as a movie star. Of course, if Summit was trying to prop up the numbers by attaching the Twilight Saga: Eclipse trailer to prints of Remember Me, it might have helped if they had NOT released the trailer online the day before the opening. So while some may decry the ‘mere’ $8.3 million, we must recall that a movie like this wouldn’t have made $1.75 if not for what drawing power Pattinson has. Sure Shia Labeouf can open slickly-marketed thrillers like Eagle Eye and Disturbia, but let’s see what happens when he has to open a movie all-by himself that doesn’t look awfully appealing regardless of him.

Besides, as word leaked out about the film’s extended-middle finger of an ending, even some of Pattinson’s die hard fans apparently decided to stay away. Speaking of females, the gender split was 84/16 on this one. Point being, if he can open Remember Me to $8.3 million all by himself, he may just be a movie star.

Here is an opinion piece from E! listing their reasoning as to whether Remember Me ultimately will be a “Hit” or a “Miss”. I want your opinion on the opinion. Also, have you seen Remember Me yet?

Remember Me will hit because…

1. It can’t miss.

Nobody expects the film, a straight-ahead romantic drama trying to make a go of it in a genre dominated by Nicholas Sparks-spawned titles, to topple Alice in Wonderland, or even challenge Matt Damon’s Green Zone for distant second at the weekend box office.

Given its lean budget—only $16 million—Remember Me doesn’t have to do a lot to get fat: A debut in the neighborhood of $10 million would do it. Heck, even Leap Year, which nobody liked, and which didn’t feature an abbreviatable star, opened with about that much.

2. Team Pattinson is on board.

Guess who’s made the Twilight franchise a megafranchise? Young women, followed by formerly young women. Guess who’s most into Remember Me? Young women, followed by formerly young women.

3. It’s all about the all-new Eclipse trailer.

Sure you could watch it—and did—on your phone this morning, but Pattinson’s hair and Taylor Lautner’s abs look so much bigger on the big screen. Isn’t that worth the price of admission alone?

Maybe. Or, then again, maybe not. Which brings us to the second part of our countdown:

Remember Me will bomb because…

4. One compound word: Bandslam.

Despite great reviews, a franchise-familiar face (High School Musical’s Vanessa Hudgens) and the supposed lure of the all-new New Moon trailer, this 2009 summer flick failed to open in the top 10. If it’s true Pattinson’s a far bigger name than Hudgens, then it’s also true Bandslam’s Rotten Tomatoes score was far higher than Remember Me’s (at least as of late Thursday).

5. One stalled breakout vehicle: Me and Orson Welles.

Zac Efron might have graduated from HSM once and for all in this Richard Linklater drama, but he couldn’t put bottoms in seats. The $25 million movie barely made $1 million domestically.

On the plus side for Pattinson, Efron did break out, even if his movie didn’t. And if a Wildcat can do it, then surely so can a vampire…er, right?
