‘Twilight’ monument at Forks High School may still be saved

A bit of bad news about Forks High School (the real one) was revealed yesterday by the Pennsylvania Daily News, but an update has since been issued which indicates that there still may be a chance to save a Twilight-related monument.

The story was that Forks High School (the setting for a lot of the Twilight series books)’s brick facade, a doorway which read “Quillayute Valley High School,” was too expensive for town folks to save, even though it was a tourist attraction for a great many Twilight fans.

“The School Board was hoping to incorporate the front of the building — left standing when the rest of the condemned structure was demolished last summer — into the design of the new campus. The facade would have been left as a stand-alone structure as a part of a grand entrance to the school,” reported PDN. “The brick design of the leaky old building figures heavily in the descriptions of the Twilight saga [and] In addition to Twilight fans who often visit the school to see and photograph the place where heroine Bella Swan meets her vampire love, Edward Cullen, the building holds greater nostalgia for generations of longtime West End families who attended school there long before Bella and Edward. But saving the facade would cost $271,000 on top of the $12.2 million construction bid accepted Friday, and its just not feasible to spend the money that way, said Bill Rohde, School Board president.”

After the announcement, a lot of Twilight fans were a bit upset about the news and discussed the possibility of pitching in on the efforts to keep the monument.

Apparently, their voices were heard because PDN issued an update which reads: “School officials still hope that something can be done to save the facade at Forks High School as a freestanding monument on the redeveloped campus. According to the conditional use permit granted to the Quillayute Valley School District by the city last summer, the district must hold a public hearing and give the community 45 days in which to find alternate funding to pay for reinforcing the brick facade. Reinforcement and renovation would be required for the facade to remain as a stand-alone structure as a memory of the 1925 portion of the school, which figures descriptively in the Twilight saga of novels. A date has not been set for the public hearing.”

No word yet on whether the community is beginning a public fundraiser for the effort or not, but it should be interesting to see how this plays out.

‘Twilight’ ‘vampire’ biting craze
Sep 29

For some reason I found the really funny.

Teenagers embarking on a vampire biting trend sparked by the success of the Twilight movies have received a warning from health officials. Some US teens are reportedly biting their partners to draw blood, before sucking it.

This has worried medical experts, who claim the practice carries with it a risk of contracting hepatitis and HIV.

Dr Thomas Abshire, a paediatric blood and cancer specialist and spokesperson for the American Academy of Paediatrics, said, “If you break the skin, your mouth is pretty dirty. The human mouth flora is dirtier than a dog or cat’s.”

Medical advisor to Consumer Reports magazine Dr Orley Avitzur added: “These are kids who think they are real vampires.”

Avitzur has spent months studying the trend online, and is in no doubt that the craze is due to the huge success of the Twilight movies.

He continued: “If you think about it, there is such glamorisation in those teen vampire movies, they make it seem so sexy and appealing and intriguing. It’s all mixed up with passion.”

Paparazzi Reform Bill Approved in California!

papzreform Paparazzi Reform Bill Approved in California!

This doesn’t just affect the Twilight cast, but every celeb and all the media. As we have discussed multiple times here at CBA, the paparazzi issue is completely out of hand so how fitting is it that on the 13th Anniversary of Princess Diana’s death something is being done to stop paparazzi from driving dangerously just to get a picture and to stop them from endangering people’s lives on a daily basis…..

The California Assembly overwhelmingly approved a bill Tuesday that will impose harsh penalties on paparazzi who drive recklessly to get pictures of celebrities. Under the legislation, photographers who break traffic laws or interfere with the operation of a celebrity’s car can receive a maximum $5,000 fine — and one year imprisonment. Tuesday is the 13th anniversary of the 1997 death of Princess Diana, which was widely attributed to a high speed chase between a car ferrying the princess and photographers.

The bill originated in and passed the Assembly in June, then was modified by the Senate. It passed Tuesday’s Assembly reconfirmation vote 43-13. It now heads to Gov. Schwarzenegger for a signature. Boosters of the bill speculated that the governor would sign the act into law, noting that he and his wife were themselves driven off the road by paparazzi in 1997.

“We feel this new law will improve public safety in general and hopefully prevent anyone else from getting hurt,” Sean Burke, founder and CEO of the Paparazzi Reform Initiative, said in a statement. Tuesday’s vote occurs on the anniversary of Princess Diana’s death.

I for one am relieved that this bill was passed and hope that more laws are put in place to stop the paparazzi from harassing celebrities and putting them and innocent bystanders in danger. This hits close to home for our fandom because Rob and Kristen ran into this issue just the other day with paparazzi swerving in and out of traffic trying to follow them home. Luckily, Rob and Kristen were helped by the police but with this law hopefully things of this nature won’t happen as much.

What do you think? Will this stop the papz? Is the law going to make a difference? Let us know in the comment section.

UPDATE: Gossip Cop is also covering the story and giving examples of celebs who have been hounded in the past including Rob and Kristen.

Stephenie Meyers’ Breaking Down?

Here is more from the TST and the Stephenie Meyers Fan Junket! To read or listen to the rest go here! (There is a lot more and you will be happy you did)

SM: This one she says may not be answerable.

Kallie: It may not be legal and that’s okay. If it’s not, okay.  I feel like a rebel right now.
Kassie: You are.  I told her not to ask it.
Kallie: I’m the straight-laced one.  Okay, so Breaking Dawn the book is being made into two movies.
SM: Yeah.
Kallie: Breaking Dawn I, Breaking Dawn II?
SM: Oh the names?
Kallie: Yes, for the movies.
SM: Oh I don’t know.  I don’t know.
Kallie: Do you have any ideas or anything?
SM: I don’t have anything.  I was thinking about that one because Breaking Dawn I and Breaking Dawn II is really flat, but then what else are you gonna do?
Kallie: I think we should look towards the Alien movies and what they’ve called them ‘cause I always think that the baby scene…
Matt: “Breaking Dawns”?
Fansite:  You know how it’s like breaking out?
Kallie: Yeah, “Breaking Out” is number one and Breaking Dawn can be number two.  No, not really.  But you know—
SM: “Breaking Down”.
Matt: “Breaking Down Again”.
SM: “Breaking Down” was actually a project for awhile.  There was awhile where you get burned out.  We came up with an alternate Breaking Dawn called “Breaking Down”.
Fansite: Nice.
SM: It was awesome.
?: There was a lot of really good stuff.
SM: Spiraling downward into the destruction of Bella Swan’s life and everyone around her.  Charlie ended up being a meth addict.  It was cool.
(chatter and laughter)
SM: No, no it was awesome!  Okay, so it starts out with Bella on the same cliff, right?  But this time she’s taking her life and she’s going back over like everything that’s happened to get to this point, and it all kind of got started because there was trouble and Alice and Jacob…I forget how it works.  Jacob killed Alice right?  And it was somewhat Bella’s fault.
Fansite: What?!
SM: No, no.  It was “Breaking Down.”  So Alice is dead and Edward is horrified because this is Bella’s fault and he like backhands Bella and disappears.  He’s gone.  All the Cullens are gone.  Alice is dead.  The Cullens are gone.  So Bella’s in the hospital on heavy pain meds which is how Charlie got addicted, and she ends up marrying Mike because you know she settles and she marries Mike.  And so she’s stuck with Mike and it’s really depressing and then he leaves her for Eric Yorkie.
(chatter and laughter)
?: You’re forgetting Lauren what’s her name on America’s Next Top Model.
SM: Oh and Lauren Mallory wins America’s Next Top Model.  Um and then Charlie ends up getting killed by drug dealers and so …I think her mom died in a car accident somewhere.  And so she ends up…there’s nothing so she’s gonna kill herself and then she thinks at the very edge at the cliff at the end: “You know?  This is stupid.  I’m not gonna kill myself.  I’m gonna rebound.  I’m gonna forge a new life.”  She turns around; she trips and falls over anyway.

Twihards Make the Time Magazine Top 10 Offbeat Fan Followings

We have proudly made it into Time Magazine’s list of 10 groups of “Freaky Fanatics” :) The full Top 10 is here

twilighttentcity Twihards Make the Time Magazine Top 10 Offbeat Fan Followings

If you’re going to be a Twihard, you’ve got to pick a side. Will you join the vamps on Team Edward or run with the pack on Team Jacob? Stephenie Meyer’s vampire-human romance novels (and the subsequent films) spawned a vampire mania that has manifested itself in the form of screaming, crying, hyperventilating, white-painted, fake-fang-wearing fans. Some favor the caring vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), while others root for Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), the underdog werewolf who has big muscles and rides motorbikes but somehow still doesn’t get the girl. Whole families form tent cities for days outside premieres, hoping to catch a glimpse of the often shirtless Lautner or the brooding Brit Pattinson. Young girls dream of finding a “real” love like Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward’s and gossip endlessly about the rumored ups and downs of the couple’s real-life romance. While seeing gaggles of frenetic teen fans is nothing new, seeing grown women fight over life-sized Edward cutouts and obsess over 18-year-old Lautner’s abdominal muscles comes as a bit of a surprise. Twimoms may have been introduced to the Twilight series by their daughters, but they have created a bloodthirsty fan group all their own.

More Sites Becoming Papz Free Zones

no paparazzi More Sites Becoming Papz Free Zones

I found this picture on a site and thought it was great to see that a lot of sites, especially Twilight and Robert Pattinson sites are becoming paparazzi free zones. I think the pic says it all. As far as set photos, that has been a topic of discussion for many sites including this one because most set photos are taken by the paparazzi. I think the golden rule is that if it is business and work related then it is okay. A pic of one of the cast in character is fine by me, but when the pic was obviously taken just to air out the actor’s personal business that has nothing to do with them being on set then I wouldnt post those. That is where it becomes a gray area and  is up to the site to decide but I think we are all intelligent people and the best thing to go by is motive. Is the picture to show them in character on set while they are working or to try and cause a stir about their personal lives? That is the question I always ask myself and it is good to see other sites taking a stand against the stalkerazzi.

‘Vampires Suck’ Spoofs ‘Twilight,’ But These Other Pop Culture Hits Deserve Mockery More

281x21144 Vampires Suck Spoofs Twilight, But These Other Pop Culture Hits Deserve Mockery More

OK OK, we get it already, many people are sick of vampires. They sit there hoping the fad will pass, just like they hope M. Night Shyamalan will never direct another film and Michael Cera has stopped trying to perfect awkward (Jesse Eisenberg so does it better… yes, they are different people). But did the creators of all those terrible spoof movies really have to make a film called “Vampires Suck,” hot off the heels of last year’s “Transylmania“? At least that one targeted the vampire fan specifically, but “Vampires Suck” takes a genre that should be easy to mock (like there aren’t enough vampires in pop culture?) and muddles it with jabs at “Jersey Shore,” Lady Gaga and “Alice in Wonderland.” Please connect those dots for us more than “they all were popular this year.”

Maybe if they decided to mock some things that deserved to be mocked but aren’t, people might stop sighing as spoof movie trailers pop up in theaters as well. Here are our suggestions.

Reality Television

“American Idol.” “The Real World.” “Keeping Up With The Kardashians.” “Jersey Shore.” Each has managed to take a nobody and turn them into a somebody for nothing than acting stupid and being dramatic (or singing, in some cases) on television. At least “The Hills” poked fun at the very Hollywood nature of reality television in the series finale. There are so many ways someone could take this anachronism and make fun of it on a movie, we’ll let them have the fun.

Mind-Bending Films

Oh hey, so there’s this little movie that came out this year called “Inception,” you might have heard of it? Chances are that Christophe Nolan’s success with it (like he had with “Memento”) will trigger a whole new wave of unoriginal storytelling trying to copy the “Inception” winning formula, so why not get ahead of the times and start making some jokes about plot twists that are mind-blowing but don’t make sense (is he dreaming or isn’t he? Hint: that’s the point!) while they’re still funny. If you need some tips, just check out this Evil Iguana “Number 23″ spoof.

Spoof Movies

That’s right, a spoof movie about a spoof movie because, come on, after “Scary Movie 2″ they kind of jumped the shark. Too meta for you? Then you probably weren’t fit to be spoofing things to begin with.

I have to agree with this one.

Vote and Show Your Love For Edward

Ian Somerhalder Pattinson 400 Vote and Show Your Love For Edward

Now I will be the first to say that online polls don’t mean much especially since it just depends on the people who access it in time but of course our sexy Edward Cullen is in the final round of EW’s Sexy Beast Poll. His competition is Damon from Vampire Diaries but what everyone should also note is that there is a lot of Twilight hate going on in the comment section of that site. It appears that there are a lot of haters who are just voting for Damon so that Edward doesn’t win. Now as Twilighters, we can’t let the haters get ahead now can we? :)

VOTE VOTE VOTE!!!

Call it my smug competitive side but we all know that out of these two, Edward is epic so I would love to see the best man win!

Is your child ravenous for all things Twilight? Try this new cookbook

If your kids are caught up in the “Twilight” craze, why not translate the madness into kitchen magic? That’s the idea behind “Love at First Bite: The Unofficial Twilight Cook Book” by Gina Meyers (iUniverse, $14.95). Within its 200 pages are family-friendly recipes, as well as plenty of “Twilight” trivia. An easy sweet snack, this treat is easy enough for kids to make with a little guidance.

Werewolf chow

9 cups rice cereal, such as Chex brand

1/4 cup butter

1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup peanut butter chips

1/2 cup smooth peanut butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

11/2 cups powdered sugar

1. Place the cereal in a large zip-seal plastic bag; set aside.

2. In a large glass bowl, combine butter and chips. Cover with wax paper and microwave on high speed for about 1 minute. Stir well. If all the chips haven’t melted, microwave for an additional 10 to 20 seconds.

3. Once melted, stir in vanilla extract.

4. Pour mixture over the cereal in the plastic bag, add the powdered sugar, seal well and shake until completely mixed. Spread the mixture over a sheet of wax paper to cool thoroughly. Transfer to a serving bowl.
