Z is for Zeal, because nothing can match the zeal of ‘Twilight’ fandom. From camping out at premieres, to set stalking, to repeated re-readings and re-watchings of the books and films, to creating fan made videos and posters — there is no end to the zealousness of Twi-fans!

Pattinson Remembers the Day Everything Changed for Him

focus2 1 Pattinson Remembers the Day Everything Changed for Himfocus3 1 Pattinson Remembers the Day Everything Changed for Him

Another one of those deep, bare-my-soul interviews from Rob Pattinson. I totally understand why he doesn’t watch his own movies.  It would bother  him if he saw something in his acting that he wished he could fix.  And as far as nothing behind the facade?  What is behind the facade is just a real person who isn’t stuck on himself and we like that!

The scans are from the Portuguese version of the magazine “Focus” and the translation is from the German version.

“There´s nothing behind the facade”
Revelations of a shy heartthrob: “Twilight”-Star Robert Pattinson about fame and hype and his new movie “Remember Me”
FOCUS: You didn´t want to watch your movie “Twilight” ever, does this still apply?
Robert: No, my parents made me watch it over Christmas. We´ve been watching several of my movies. I was able to avoid it successfully until then.
F: But why?
R: Because I can´t change anything once the movie is done. I can´t improve my performance and I can´t undo anything. So there´s no use, quite the contrary. You´re in danger to criticize yourself way too much. Or you find something about your performance that you really like and so you automatically try to copy it for your next movie. That´s really counterproductive. I rather watch the different takes on a monitor while shooting, I think that´s much more interesting.
F: You said once that you feel like a cheater when you appear on the screen…
R: Well, it´s not that bad anymore…
F: But there are thousands of girls lying at your feet. Doesn´t that convince you?
R: I have never been confident. That´s probably my worst characteristic. But maybe also my best. Somehow I don´t believe it when somebody says something good about me. The voice in my head is always much louder. That can be pretty awful.
F: At the beginning of the hype about “Twilight”, it seemed that you weren´t really comfortable in your own famous skin…
R: It all happened so fast. 2008 was absolutely crazy. At the beginning of the year, a lot of things went wrong. I had a tax payment in the mail and I really wanted to give up acting altogether. Then “Twilight” came up and I thought: “Okay, I´m just gonna do this small movie.” And then everything changed, at once. I can remember the day exactly. Three months before the premiere, some magazine had my photo on the cover and I was suddenly famous. In the morning I could still walk down the street without anybody having a second glance. In the afternoon everybody was staring at me. The speed of all this happening was unbelievable. Nevertheless, I would give this year ten points out of ten. It was like riding on a train that would bring me to a new fantastic destination…

Same author at the Eclipse Trailer remix we posted earlier today, vera241241. Done to “hysteria”, this is a combination of Twilight and New Moon and is, again, very, very good.

Funny Story: Twilight from a Man’s Perspective

Vman twilight series 2542975 680 634 Funny Story: Twilight from a Mans Perspective

This is a very funny conversation between Twilight fan and writer CJK, and her cousin’s husband. It takes place at a family bar-b-que. I think she was just trying to make polite conversation…

I started by asking my cousin’s husband if he saw the movies and what he thought.

“The Twilight Saga”, “I know it pretty well”, grunts Alex, a 29 year old male from New Jersey. “My wife loves that stuff” he added. So I asked him to tell me what he knows about it all, and he replied,
“I feel like I’m the fan, I have learned so much while trying very hard to ignore it all.” He laughs, “So what do you want to know, I can pretty much tell you anything, since it’s pretty much all I heard about for months.” He adds, “At first, I starting think my wife was cheating on me with some guy named Edward, since his name was all I heard when she talked to her friends.” He continues, “But I know my wife and she isn’t like that, so I asked her who is this Edward character and how does she know him?”, as he had this confused look on his face. “Boy was that a big mistake” as he sighed. “I had just signed myself up for a history lesson about the books, the characters, basically all of it, and I had no choice in the matter since I opened myself up for it.”

I started to laugh and asked him, so what did she tell you about Edward? He answers, “Well from the beginning, I had no idea what it was all about, all I know is she just kept reading these book like I wasn’t even there. So I didn’t know what the whole thing was about, so she started to explain who Edward was.”, as he took a sip from his drink. He put his drink down and continued, “All she kept saying is how good-looking, sexy, romantic, and dreamy Edward was.” With an angry look in his eyes he says, “I was seriously starting to get jealous. I couldn’t believe that a character in a book was getting to me. So she continues to tell me about the plot of the story, and with confusion, I came to find out Edward is a vampire.” With a confused look on his face he continued, “He is a vampire I told her. Since when is someone that drinks someone else’s blood, dreamy, sexy, and all the other great things you said before. Do you understand all this, I continued, not being able to get over the fact, that my wife I obsessed with a vampire.” You had to hear all the other guys agreeing and saying that their wives or girlfriends were the same way. All the emotion it brought out in them and how worked up they got; It was all so funny to me. So I asked Alex to continue, as he calms himself down he replies “I just couldn’t understand it. He is a vampire and she seems like if he came knocking on the door, that with no question, she would be gone. All from a book, it’s just so crazy.”

What is the Fandom Gives Back and Why Should I Care?

fandom What is the Fandom Gives Back and Why Should I Care?

Hey guys it’s Mel, your head Fan Fic Picker, and I am here today to share with you all little about the “Fandon Gives Back”(FGB). A few weeks ago we did a piece on Alex’s Lemonade Stand, the main charity for the FGB, but we never gave you guys and gals the skinny on what the FGB does and how it works.

This group is organized by three very lovely ladies who just want to give back to a fandom that has give so much to all of us. Last year, the Twilight fandom banned together to raise over $86,000. Yes, you read right – over $86,000 was raised collectively from the fandom. It was done MANY different ways. A large part of the money was raised through auctions of items ranging from signed Twi gear, hand made crafts, banners, and fan trips to fan fiction writer putting themselves up for bid to write a story just for the winner. In addition to the those auctions people did things from penny drives and advanced screenings of New Moon, to donating money in the name of a Twilight star. (Fans of Kstew donated over $10,000 in her name!). There were others like me who were, for lack of a better word, poor, that couldn’t donate money but could donate goods, time, services and recipes (yep we even had a digital cook book) to help the cause.

This year there is all that and more! However, more ways to help means more help needed.  We here at CBA are throwing a midnight showing party with our very own lemonade stand. There is also blood drive in CA and a Ball in Australia. Visit the FGB web site for all the ways you can pitch in. Don’t feel like your help won’t make a difference! If all you can do is retweet info for FGB, do it! EVERY LITTLE BIT DOES HELP!

In the end it doesn’t matter about hit counts, number of reviews or whose name is on the Lemonade stand. What matters is helping fight cancer. And if you need another reason besides helping others, I have got one for you- by helping, you can show the world that we aren’t just a bunch of screaming fans and when we work together as a group AMAZING things happen!

If some of you are wondering what an author auction is, here is a to link an example, Deconstructing Dracula from Edward’s Perspective. ( CBA recommended the original,  Deconstructing Dracula by Hmonster4 here -we love that fanfiction.)  The winner of this auction requested more Vladward and this is what the author they bid on wrote for them.  Enjoy!!

Wondercon Backlash? Why Hating Twilight is No Longer “Cool”

128908462740759252 Wondercon Backlash? Why Hating Twilight is No Longer Cool

Hating Twilight is just so tired, and it makes us all look like a**holes. Maybe it’s time to start figuring out what’s cool about Twilight.

Do you remember how the Eclipse trailer was booed at Wondercon? Well, here is an article that attempts to explain what is going on. I’m sure parts of it will tick you off and parts of it will make great sense. I’m also pretty sure after reading this, you will need to talk…

From Sci-fi website io9

When the trailer for new Twilight movie Eclipse played at a recent fan convention in San Francisco, the crowd erupted in boos so loud the soundtrack was drowned out. That’s when I realized hating Twilight had gotten boring.

Back when hating Twilight was cool

Maybe it’s my knee-jerk tendency to recoil from mob behavior, but it seems to me that when hating something has become such a cliche that people catcall it before even watching the trailer – well, that’s not a taste judgment anymore. It’s just neuro-twitches working their way through lemming brains. If there was ever a time when hating Twilight was cutting-edge and cool, it was when the series was just a crypto-Mormon set of books about a mopey princess and her sparkly, obsessive prince whose penis has the power to blacken her womb.

Only the discerning hated those novels. There were interesting reasons to do it, like the fact that the books taught women that men were supposed to take care of them. And that it was OK to promise your infant daughter in marriage to a creepy adult guy who is in love with you.

But hating the movies? Anybody who has ever sneered at Hot Topic can do that. Hell, you can probably buy anti-Twilight gear at Hot Topic, right next to the pro-Twilight belt buckles. My point is that people are hating on the movies so vocally not because they have actually watched them, evaluated them in the context of other paranormal romance narratives, and deemed them aesthetically inferior. They hate them because it’s what everybody else is doing. Especially men.

Girls suck

Among commentators who are far too mature to break into enthusiastic boos when they watch a movie, there is a general consensus that these movies are “just for girls/women/mothers/daughters/sisters.” I can’t tell you how many men have told me informally – or written formally in various publications – things like, “My daughter is obsessed with Twilight and I don’t understand,” or “My wife and daughters are downstairs watching a Twilight movie. I am hiding upstairs.”

I guess I’m glad that women have discovered how to unseat male power over the home entertainment system with the push of a DVD player button. But I think if you scratch the surface of comments like that, what you find underneath is a room full of men screaming “booo” because they hate pop culture aimed at women. Or because they are scared of it. Whatever.
