The script for “Wolverine 2″ has been in place for a few months now, and Hugh Jackman recently cleared his schedule to begin the process of beefing up to bring the clawed Canadian mutant back to the big screen. One thing that’s still missing, however, is a director.While “X-Men” director Bryan Singer had been rumored as a top contender to get behind the camera for “Wolverine 2,” Vulture is reporting that “Twilight: Eclipse” and “30 Days of Night” director David Slade is the current favorite for the role. “Red” director Robert Schwentke is also under consideration to helm the film, and both filmmaker will meet with Jackman next week.

The report cites anonymous “well-placed sources” in the studio, claiming both filmmakers have been approved by 20th Century Fox, and are only awaiting Jackman’s decision.

Screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie’s script for the film is based on Chris Claremont and Frank Miller’s story arc that saw Logan traveling to Japan, falling in love, and brawling with samurai.

“['Wolverine 2'] will be very different from the last ‘Wolverine’ movie, and that’s what I like about it,” Jackman told MTV News last year. “I didn’t want it to feel like the same thing. … It’s a whole new environment and the storyline is unbelievable. I wish I could announce to you some of the people involved.”

Filming for “Wolverine 2″ is expected to begin in January 2011.

When shooting The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, I always felt an awareness of how many people this film would reach and as a result, knew that this film did not just belong to myself, the producers and the studio, but more so, to all of you, the fans of The Twilight Saga.

At the end of the day, after all the hard work is done, all that’s left is the film itself, and your overwhelmingly positive and supportive responses have made me feel like we must have done something right. As a filmmaker, this is a rare and strange feeling of connection with an audience of which I will never forget and I thank you all for it.

Wyck came up with Edward’s “Does he own a shirt?” line, which is so great to Team Edward fans. Also they talk about a few scenes they plan to put on the Eclipse DVD!  Right at the end of the interview, Rosenberg make some comments on future Twilight Saga movies. Q: David, what were the specific changes you wanted to make, going into the film?

David: With Edward, I really wanted to make sure this character was dangerous. In the last movie, he had played a different character arc, but in this movie, I wanted to bring out the carnivore in him. That had to come throughout the film, and he hadn’t really done that so much. That was the main thing. I tried to look at every scene, with that in mind. Underlying everything is danger. That was the intention.

Q: Do you have any special features or extras planned for the DVD?

Wyck: There’s the nude scene we shot that wasn’t in the book. No. I don’t know. With any film, you go through the process of editing it down to its fighting weight and, ultimately, you’re going to have some scenes that didn’t end up in the movie.

David: There were a number of scenes which just felt excessive, in terms of beating the same story, but some of them were really nice.

David: What happens is that the film has its own momentum from the script. When you start going, by the time you hit the third act, you’re just blasting along, and that scene just came to a stop. But, it’s a beautiful scene that’s beautifully performed, and it’ll be a nice little bonus for fans of the book.

Wyck: I think there’s going to be a lot of classic behind-the-scenes stuff, where you’re going to get to see how we did most of the action and stunts in the movie, and a lot of the CG process. That stuff will flesh out the experience for audiences that do like to go behind the camera and see how it’s all done.

Melissa: It’s interesting, when I did the first Twilight movie, I actually wrote it before it was cast. I was writing in a vacuum, and it actually had a lot of humor in it. And then, we realized, as we got it on actors, that it just wasn’t appropriate. But, now the actors are more comfortable with it and I think the story lends itself to that. Wyck actually came up with the best line in the movie, “Does he own a shirt?” There’s a confidence level in the storytelling now.

Q: With the wealth of backstory and appetite for more Twilight, would you see doing movies on Alice or any of the other characters, with Stephenie’s approval?

Melissa: I think she’s going to do that. I would look at anything she wrote. If this series is going to expand, it will be by her doing.

Q: Will it always be book first?

Melissa: I would think it would be. I haven’t even thought of it, but I would think it would have to be book first.

Brace yourself for Eclipse being different! It IS rated PG-13. Do you trust Pattinson’s declaration that “different” is a good thing?

Quoting MTV:

…”Twilight” enthusiasts who haven’t braced themselves for a different experience should consider themselves warned: Leading man Robert Pattinson revealed to MTV News that the threequel absolutely takes a more serious tone.

“I’ve seen a very early cut,” Pattinson said at the . “It’s good. It’s different. It’s really different, like, it’s kind of serious.”

Pattinson clarified that in the case of “Eclipse,” the words “different” and “serious” are good things, especially when it comes to the action sequences. “All the kinds of fight scenes that are in ‘New Moon,’ they’re, like, real fights now [in 'Eclipse'],” he said. “They’re not, like, fantasy things. It’s like a horror film!”

The horror label should come as no surprise considering that “30 Days of Night” director David Slade is responsible for “Eclipse.” And not to mention the fact that Peter Facinelli previously revealed that fans will see the “true vampire-ness” of his Carlisle Cullen and the rest of his fanged family, including the “dark, dangerous side” of Alice (Ashley Greene), as well as “a darker side” of Jasper (Jackson Rathbone). Another big tipoff to the film’s pitch can be found in the “Eclipse” footage we’ve already seen, like the action-packed teaser that premiered during the 2010 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday.

Having earned a PG-13 rating for “intense sequences of action and violence,” there’s no question that “Eclipse” will differ from previous “Twilight Saga” installments. The only question is, do you trust Pattinson’s declaration that “different” is a good thing?

Dear fans of The Twilight Saga,

I want to congratulate you for reaching over 6 million fans on The Twilight Saga Facebook page.

It’s hard to fathom that it was just over one year ago that I started constructing this third and epic adventure which takes place in the town of Forks.

I want to share a story about one of our days of shooting with you.

It was a Friday night and the rain was relentless. We were at La Push to shoot the tribe’s histories, a great speech by Billy Black. We had Taylor and Kristen and the whole wolf pack around a campfire as the heavens let loose on us.

Gil Birmingham was in fine form as the rain hammered down on us all, we adjusted our lights so that the rain vanished into the black of night.

We constructed a tent over the scene to keep everyone dry as we worked, every 15 minutes or so we would have to tip it to stop the collecting rain from splitting the fabric.

For some reason still unknown, around 3am, the wolf pack stood exactly in the way of several gallons of rainwater as it was being cleared. Being the wolf pack, they just laughed it off as they stood there soaked to the bone.

We worked through the mud and the rain all night, until we had the scene perfected.

As we left, dawn was now cracking and in the dim light I passed a small army of fans who had braved the weather for the entire night, still standing there, holding drenched flowers and waiting to get a glimpse of our actors.

So, to those of you who stood behind our security, who waited in line at theatres overnight, to those of you who just love these stories, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is a love letter to you.

Each day I felt the weight of your favourite scenes, your favourite lines, your dreams and your imagination.

It has been an unforgettable journey, and now as I finalise the last prints to ready the film for your local theaters, I cannot wait for you to see it.

We all are really hoping Davis Slade will do a respectable job on Eclipse and so far it looks like we will get our wish. Twilight Examiner has found an audio interview he did recently. You can listen to it in it’s entirety here or read Amanda Bell’s transcripts of portions of that interview below:

In an audio interview with Earth’s Mightiest, Slade revealed that he found the idea of helming a romantic actor-cetric picture to be quite a challenge – and one which would elevate his capacity as a director: “It was just that I’d done two very intense films, one was outright horror film one was a thriller, and there was a really an intense acting film, a very very intense drama. And you know there were a lot of films around that I could’ve done and some amazing ones that fell through and there was lots of others, and you know . . . but no one was offering me something different. I just . . . from going from a one-person drama in a house to an expansive film set in Alaska . . . It was a big challenge. To me, it was here’s a chance to reinvent and learn a lot more . . . And I think I have a skill-set to address that and the studio obviously thought so . . . The interesting thing was at no point did they go ‘Well, we’re really scared you’re going to make it too scary.’ No, this was never discussed, it was just ‘Well, let’s talk about it.’ . . . So, from my point of view, it was very different than anything anyone else was offering me.”

David Slade also revealed that one of his focal points in making the picture was to explore the whys and hows of certain mythological elements to the picture: “There was a certain amount of mythology that I found personally very interesting that I could bring a kind of sense of awareness I think that kind of hadn’t been addressed before. How do these things work when it comes to vampires? Why do they sparkle? What is it about them that does that and how does it works? Those kinds of things were really interesting to me. Those things were explored a little. There aren’t as many sparkly shots, but I think you get a sense of the physics of the whole thing . . . On the one hand, you have this intensely naturalistic romantic drama . . . so when it comes to these kind of fantastic elements, to me, it was important that they didn’t raise above the level of magic realism. You had to accept them as natural.”

They like it, they really like it!

W.L. Swarts left this review of the Twilight Saga: Eclipse on epinions. Seems to be a genuine review by someone who is a self-proclaimed non-fan.  They felt Bryce did a good job stepping in for Lafevre, that Ashley Greene steals the scenes she is in and that you actually understand her power.  Jackson’s performance sells his part and Carlisle nails his! (Sounds like more Cullens!)

If this is all true, we will be thanking David Slade next month!

Series’ become tougher and tougher for non-fans the longer the series persists. Those who are not embedded in a phenomenon tend to be looking for something that builds on the prior installments while still giving viewers something that feels new, if not entirely familiar. So, for example, with “Twilight” the pressure on filmmakers was to please fans and get an audience who had not read any of the books intrigued in the story and characters. With “New Moon” the pressure was to retain the audience and not simply repeat the teen melodrama aspects and allow the audience to feel like the story was actually going somewhere. They largely succeeded. With “Eclipse,” the third installment in the “Twilight Saga,” the stakes are raised, especially for those who are not already glued to the series.

For that audience, the fear has to be that “Eclipse” will simply be a repetition of the two prior installments and will be more teen melodrama than anything else. After all, in “The Twilight Saga,” there is a romance to vampires and werewolves and much of Kristen Stewart’s acting involves alternately looking moon-eyed and falling down. With “Eclipse,” the formula is broken and the film fearlessly illustrates what it only implied in “New Moon,” that most vampires are actually angry and quite evil. While “New Moon” had the carnage off-screen, “Eclipse” illustrates it and the conflict becomes more than just a teenage “I love him,” “no, I love the other guy,” “no, I love the first guy more” story. And it is bound to be well-received by the fans. It was well-received by this non-fan.

Bella Swan and Edward Cullen have made it to Senior year of high school and as their relationship is deepening, Bella is applying to colleges and Edward decides to go through the motions of going to college to be with her and applies as well. But in nearby Seattle, Washington, there have been killings which Jacob knows are the work of vampires. Bella, despite Edward’s dislike of Jacob, continues to visit Jacob and with Jacob’s werewolf clan moves to deal with the vampires, Jacob becomes more protective of his best friend. When Edward and the Cullens are given proof that the problems in Seattle are the works of vampires, Alice sees the menace coming to Forks and the Cullens are forced to flee.

With an army of vampires descending upon Forks, Bella, Edward and Jacob flee in order to protect Bella as she appears to be the target of the rage of the vampires. With the attack imminent, the Cullen family joins forces with the werewolves in order to prevent the slaughter of humans and the exposure of both supernatural communities.

The nicest thing about “Eclipse” is that while the characters seem largely the same in the film, the plot has an almost constant sense of movement and the film feels like it is going somewhere. And where it goes is worth the wait. The key to who is behind the army of vampires and why makes perfect sense and the emotional resonance carries back to the final scene of “Twilight,” which works for those who have seen the prior installments. For those who have not seen “Twilight,” the motivations for Victoria are repeated enough so that she seems like a reasonable villain. Newbie viewers are more likely to be lost by the appearance of Jane and the Volturi than Victoria and her arc.

On the subject of Victoria, Bryce Dallas Howard steps into the role beautifully and while fans might miss Rachel Lefevre, Howard does a good job of playing Victoria as both harsh and wounded. In fact, I didn’t even notice the recasting until the credits, that is how flawlessly Howard assumes the looks and mannerisms of Victoria as characterized by Lefevre.

On the character front, “Eclipse” does a decent job of progressing Bella, Edward and Jacob, though it narrowly misses recreating the sense of watching the same ridiculous love triangle in the prior film. The movie works in this regard because it leaves the characters with a much more firm sense of who each of the principles are and what direction they are headed in. Bella manages to swoon more for Edward and the resulting decisions she makes feel much more organic than simply having to choose between the two lead hunks. The result is that “Eclipse” will probably replay better than “New Moon” for those who are not looking at the series for the teenage romance aspect.

As far as performances go, Ashley Greene continues to steal her scenes as Alice Cullen, the vampire who is able to see the future (except when it is most useful). Fortunately, her vision is explained and explored more in this movie, as is Jasper’s twitchiness. Jackson Rathbone has played Jasper as twitchy and dark and in “Eclipse” he is given the chance to steal a scene or two for more than just chill factor. He portrays Jasper in a more adult fashion and when Jasper begins to take a leadership role in the planning of the combat, it is Rathbone’s performance which sells it.

The leading men do what they have done before, so there are no surprises from Robert Pattinson (Edward), Taylor Lautner (Jacob), Billy Burke (Charlie, Bella’s father) or Peter Facinelli (Carlisle Cullen). Facinelli deserves a special note in that his role as the Cullen patriarch is given more importance in “Eclipse” and Facinelli makes good use of the screentime. His trick is to both provide a level of consistency and to make quiet scenes where Carlisle provides deeply human wisdom seem inhuman and Facinelli nails it.

Kristen Stewart continues to do a decent job of balancing Bella’s role as damsel in distress and normal teenage girl. In “Eclipse,” the role is a bit more physical for her and she seems up to the task. Waifish girls everywhere have a new role model in Stewart’s Swan and she plays off Pattinson well, so at the very least the film portrays a very real sense of sexual chemistry.

Finally, while “New Moon” had some morph effects which were not ideal (notably with werewolf transformations), “Eclipse” has the kinks worked out. The special effects are amazing and adult audiences are likely only to be disappointed in that they do not go far enough. The climactic battle has startlingly little blood for a conflict of its magnitude and those looking at this for an adult sense of realism are likely to be a little let down.

But those looking for something new to swoon about in Forks, Washington, where vampires and werewolves are real and they are all interested in teenagers, “Eclipse” is something to rave about.

Who knows exactly what went on in Vancouver. I wasn’t there. Malicious Mandy was and here are the items she believes, from talking to people etc., were some of the scenes that were worked on in some way or other:

Scenes:

-Tent Scene (Bella crawls into Jacob’s sleeping bag, banter between Jake & Edward)
-Pick Me (Jacob’s heart felt plee with Bella)
-Kiss & Punch (Jacob & Bella)
-Various Close up’s (Yes wig issues worked out for Bella, these shots are likely the lighting/colouring adjustments also)
-Some love triangle discussion (jealousy of Edward, persistence of Jacob, confusion of Bella, mostly at tent scene but some in Bella’s room of Edward/Bella)

I have heard there needed to be MORE Jacob/Bella in the film and deeper emotion with the two of them in scenes.

Here is what the Lexicon had to say about the flurry of rumors surrounding the reshoots, or pickup shots, or whatever you want to call what went on in Vancouver last week.

Breath, basically.

Over the last week and especially this weekend, rumors have sprung up regarding the reshoots (known as pick up shots) in Vancouver. We’ve seen every kind of speculation. It ranged from “the entire film’s in chaos, they are redoing everything” to “Rob and David were at each others throats over the filming, and Rob walked out after an argument causing a massive delay” and just about every other manipulation of those two items that you can think of.

No doubt in reaction to the myriad of rumors, David Slade (who has previously been notoriously silent on such matters) has commented on his Twitter. This is a very unusual reaction from David Slade who in the midst of other rumor intensive times merely Tweeted out pictures of flowers, fish, and weathered crew members; seemingly immune to it all.

Here is what David Slade had to say, even though it’s an old adage that you can’t be sure of tone of voice on the Internet,we think it’s pretty clear here.

“So strange, I go away for three weeks and return to all these upsetting completely fabricated rumours. Who makes this stuff up as news.

According to Gossip Cop, ALL IS WELL with Eclipse:

Over the last few hours, whispers of unrest have emanated from the Vancouver set where Eclipse is filming pick-ups.

Robert Pattinson arrived in the Pacific Northwest a couple of days ago to participate. When he wasn’t in front of the cameras immediately after stepping off the plane, many outlets freaked.

Some even suggested a rift between Pattinson and director David Slade, and that the actor was refusing to be cooperative.

This simply is not the case.

As we speak, Pattinson is on the set filming, a source on the scene confirms to Gossip Cop.

“There are absolutely no problems,” a rep for Summit tells Gossip Cop, adding, “Today is the first day of shooting for Robert Pattinson.”

The pick-ups are underway, as scheduled, and speculation about problems should be curbed in favor of facts.

We all love Eclipse and only want the best for the movie so we are understandably share the concern when things in Vancouver look confusing. Thankfully, Summit is hearing our concerns and assuaging them.

Just thought you’d enjoy this light-hearted look at possible new endeavors for Eclipse director, David Slade.  Brought to you by Josh Wigler of MTV and inspired, I’m sure, by the vampires walking out of the water in the new trailer.

The new trailer for “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” debuted today, cementing the fact that director David Slade is a wonderful, wonderful man. By all accounts, it appears that Slade has brought his signature flair for the supernatural and the horrific to “Eclipse,” turning a franchise that’s mostly aimed at a younger female audience into something that any action and horror geek could get excited by.

Not that I’m particularly surprised, really. Slade is a talented filmmaker with such expertise over the horror genre that I’m pretty sure he could make any harmless property into something gloriously gory. In fact, here are five seemingly innocent franchises that Slade would have little trouble taking down a dark and dangerous path.

Barbie
Barbie and Ken have everything they could ever ask for — great friends, a beautiful pink car, a lovely dream house — until Barbie’s sister Skipper is rendered comatose by a mysterious incident. Upon further investigation, Barbie learns that a shadowy sect of underground dwellers is responsible for her sister’s condition, leading our heroine and Ken down a proverbial rabbit hole filled with crime, conspiracy and random acts of violence.

Care Bears
The economy is collapsing, crime is on the rise and nobody in the world seems to care — except for Max, a ten year-old boy in desperate need of some hope. When he’s visited in the night by a mysterious creature calling himself Secret Bear, Max learns that the land of Care-A-Lot has been commandeered by the nefarious Dark Heart. Max assembles his elementary school pals to liberate the bears and restore care to the world, but unbeknownst to him, Secret Bear has some dark secrets of his own…

My Little Pony
Something strange is afoot in Dreamcastle, as several baby ponies have inexplicably gone missing over the past several weeks. The brave but foolhardy William The Pony decides to take matters into his own hand, leading him to the pits of the Volcano of Doom. There, he learns of a terrible conspiracy centering on the illicit sale of pony horns on the black market, prompting a daring rescue attempt where the future of ponies everywhere is at stake.

The Fudge Series
Ten years have passed since the Hatcher family tragically lost their young son Farley Drexel — better known as Fudge — during a vacation in the south pacific. But when Peter, now a lawyer, is visited by the ghost of his toddler brother, a series of disturbing events overwhelms his life, leading to the terrible and supernatural discovery of what really happened on the day that Fudge disappeared.

Troll Dolls
The people of Earth are thrown for a loop upon the discovery that sentient Troll Dolls have successfully corrupted the youth of the world in an attempt to overpower adults everywhere. As the situation darkens for the surviving parents, a young girl and her very own Troll doll — both of whom are disenchanted with the domineering ways of the other Trolls — present themselves to the adult rebellion with a plan to take back the world.

Fifth Coolest: Jacob’s Joke
Let’s face it: This is a pretty intense, in-your-face trailer. In fact, there’s only one moment of levity in the entire clip, and it’s of the we-might-all-be-dying-soon-so-let’s-bond-now variety. Realizing that the only way to defeat Victoria’s army of newborn vampires is by working together, the Cullens and Jacob’s Quileute homeys forge an unlikely alliance. After two movies of staring down the Cullen clan, Jacob looks at Edward and deadpans, “As long as we get to kill some vampires.” Hey, if this wolf-boy thing doesn’t work out, maybe Jacob has a future in stand-up comedy.

Fourth Coolest: Obligatory Beefcake
Then again, maybe that future could be working for Chippendales. Everybody knows it’s coming, and the “Twilight” audience can’t wait to see it — so, of course, 1:14 into the trailer, David Slade reminds us that Taylor Lautner has a really good personal trainer. Not since the heyday of Bob and Doug McKenzie has there been such a reliable shot of a six-pack.

Third Coolest: A Bouncing Baby Victoria
In this day and age, there isn’t a lot of action-movie gimmickry that hasn’t been thought of. But as much as I rack my brain, I can’t remember seeing anything quite like the way Victoria launches herself from tree to tree during her attempted escape. It seems like the scene may play like the speeder chase from “Return of the Jedi,” only without speeders and if Luke, Leia and the stormtroopers were bouncing all over the place like pinballs. We can’t wait to see this whole sequence.

Second Coolest: Meet the Newborns
All this time, we’ve been waiting to get a glimpse of Victoria’s recently converted group of super-vampires and with good reason: Much of the film’s mood, spectacle and action is dependent on them. It sure is a relief to see that they look so imposing, bloodthirsty and unique. Aside from the fear that the water-crossing scene is indicative of wandering into George A. Romero zombie territory, the newbies seem to be all the fans would hope for.

Top Über-Cool Spectacle: Slo-Mo Slaughter
It’s the money shot. It gives us our best look yet at those improved wolves Ashley Greene recently promised, and we see a good promise of some sweet carnage. All in all, it’s the best tease yet of what we’re eager to see in “Eclipse.”

* David Slade is “so funny.”

According to the girls’ talk tonight, Eclipse director David Slade is “so funny.” Julia Jones talked about some moments on-set where she’d look over and wonder what David Slade was doing because it was so erratic and hilarious. They all discussed his knack for details, but they seemed to agree that there was a lot of off-beaten humor about David Slade that was fun to play off of.

* Kellan Lutz punched Jackson Rathbone

Yeah, you read that right. During filming, Nikki Reed revealed, Jackson Rathbone took a punch to the head thanks to his on-screen big brother Kellan Lutz. Apparently, there was a mis-hap with ducking, and Kellan Lutz put Jackson Rathbone in the hospital. Of course, it was a total accident. Ouch.

* Bryce Dallas Howard wanted “Victoria” to be the same

It’s always interesting to hear how Bryce Dallas Howard approached the situation she found herself in last fall . . . picking up a character role that’d been portrayed (and loved) by another actress. When she was asked about how she approached the role, Howard revealed that it was her goal to achieve continuity as best as possible with the character as it “had been set” in both the film (by Rachelle Lefevre) series and the books.

* Stunt doubles had impressively similar faces

Apparently, Nikki Reed got a stunt actor confused with Bryce Dallas Howard at one point because of how similar the stunt double looked . . . The reason, they revealed, was that the actors’ faces were made into a mold and mask which the stunt actors then wore. Only the eyes moved, they said, and it was hard to distinguish the actors from the stunt doubles even up close. This, they opined, was so that stunt shots could be taken closer up without the viewer noticing a difference in facial appearances. Pretty smart move, eh?

* Julia Jones: half-naked, throwing footballs around with boys

Poor Julia. She was one of the few women on-set that spent most of her time with the wolfpack boys and all of their rowdy shenanigans. She revealed that she didn’t get to do a lot of action sequences and that most of her downtime was with the boys throwing footballs around. She also revealed that, while her character (unlike her fellow wolves) wore a shirt, she was still half-naked in the rain a lot and that it was very cold.

* Training, training, training

One thing that the girls talked about, and which we’ve heard a lot about in the process of interviews about the film to date, was the fight training. Nikki Reed revealed that there were room-sized treadmills that they had to run on so as to be able to run in all different directions at varying times. She also said that not only was there fight training (which could last up to six hours, in some cases), but there was also personal training. From the sounds of the fitness regimen issued these castmembers for Eclipse, the vampires got a taste of what the wolves had been going through for quite a while.
