‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ Movie Review

4971 1 ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ Movie Review

I was a little unsure on whether I was going to go see this movie, but when one of my favorite movie review sites gave it a “full price,” I figured what the heck.

I am so glad I did.

Anna Kendrick delivers an amazing performance as well as the rest of the cast. They mesh together, each actor standing out and filling their role while forming a cohesive group.

The overall look of the film was innovative, fun, smart and refreshing while not becoming overwhelming  (it is an added bonus if you are a big gamer).  I laughed more than I thought I would at the subtle “pop ups” throughout the film. More importantly I now have many fun one liners that I want quote over and over again thanks to an amazingly well written script.

Erring on the caution, as far as giving away any plot points, I will leave you with this: I am glad there was only one other guy that Edward even had to remotely contend with.

Enjoy the film!

‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ Co-Star Anna Kendrick Defends ‘Twilight’ Fans

Anna Kendrick. co-star of the upcoming film ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” has a unique perspective on the hullabaloo surrounding the “Twilight” movies and book series. Kendrick has had a role in the first three films of the franchise (playing Bella’s friend, Jessica Stanley), but because she’s not a main character, the 25-year-old actress isn’t the focus of intense media or fan attention, like Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are.

During a recent conversation with Kendrick, Speakeasy asked the actress about her insider-outsider status. “I just feel really lucky to be in it but not have my privacy completely compromised by it,” Kendrick said. “I’m glad that the paparazzi haven’t followed me every day this year. I do not wish to be in that position.”

Still, Kendrick bristled at the notion that “Twilight” fans, or “Twihards,” are a little overboard. “People like to make fun of the fans who camp out but people have renaissance faires; people do Civil War reenactments; people do what they like,” Kendrick said. “I’m tired of hearing people rag on the fans. If you don’t like ‘Twilight,’ don’t buy a ticket.”

Thanks My dear!

Kendrick Keeps The Twilight at Bay

NY AK204 SPEAKE DV 20100809172049 Kendrick Keeps The Twilight at Bay

Anna Kendrick shot to fame last year with her Oscar-nominated role opposite George Clooney in “Up in the Air,” but New York theater fans have been familiar with the actress for more than a decade. In 1998, at age 12, Ms. Kendrick was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance in the Broadway production of “High Society,” becoming one of the youngest actresses to achieve the distinction.

At the time, Ms. Kendrick, who is from Maine, lived with her father and older brother in Yonkers. Since then she has grown into a promising adult actress, with roles in the musical theater-inspired “Camp,” the wildly popular “Twilight” franchise and “Up in the Air.’ Her latest role is as the no-nonsense sister to Michael Cera’s dreamy garage-band lothario in “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.”

The Journal spoke with Ms. Kendrick, who turned 25 on Monday.

Wall Street Journal: You attended Comic-Con recently to promote “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” which is based on a comic book. What’s the convention like?

Ms. Kendrick: Comic-Con was awesome. It’s like geeks take over the city of San Diego. [They're] in their element and really shining.

WSJ: Speaking of geeks, movies like “High School Musical” and shows like “Glee” have made musical theater cool among kids in recent years. Was that the case when you were in high school?

Ms. Kendrick: We were total freaks. It was not cool. I did not get any street cred for doing theater at my school.

WSJ: So when you were younger, where did the motivation to act come from?

Ms. Kendrick: Why does a six year old kid want to play soccer? I think it’s the same thing. You just want to be on stage. That’s the only thing that matters. You don’t worry about the motivation for that.

WSJ: What was it like to be a 12-year-old stage actress in New York?

Ms. Kendrick: I went down on the bus with my brother and we would sort of like be running around New York. When I was doing that show and doing auditions, we were staying in New York by ourselves. We thought we were pretty rad. I guess it’s strange, because I get these gasps of horror when I say that I went to New York with my brother or by myself when I was really young from Maine. But kids live in New York. It was like a magical place for us. We didn’t think it was that big a deal.

WSJ: If you were writing a manual for other young actors titled “How to Survive Awards Season,” what would be your advice?

Ms. Kendrick: To not worry about the fact that the thing you probably care most about in the world—your performance and your work—is being reduced to a soundbite about lip gloss. You’re going to be on red carpets and the only thing they’re going to ask you about are your shoes.

WSJ: When you’re involved in a cultural phenomenon like “Twilight,” does someone from the movie studio sit you down and prepare you?

Ms. Kendrick: Nobody ever really sat me down. I understand that, because people react differently to that kind of thing. I’m glad that the paparazzi haven’t followed me. It’s amazing the way from the outside you can think that there must be something kind of cool or glamorous about it. The very few times it’s happened to me, it’s so terrifying.

Maine streamer From Portland to Hollywood, Anna Kendrick is on a meteoric rise

Anna Kendrick has become “that girl.’’ Most notably, she’s that girl from “Up in the Air,’’ the peppy one whose sparring with George Clooney earned her a nomination for best supporting actress at this year’s Oscars. To the indie movie crowd, Kendrick is that girl who played spitfire Ginny Ryerson from 2007’s “Rocket Science.’’ And to a different segment of the population — the one that’s still debating Team Edward vs. Team Jacob — Kendrick is that girl from the “Twilight’’ series, the too-peppy, self-absorbed Jessica, who steals many a scene from her brooding costars, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.

And now, because of her small-but-sharp role in the film adaptation of the comic book “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,’’ Kendrick will be a geek-love hero for bringing Scott’s endearingly judgmental sister, Stacey Pilgrim, to life on the big screen. The movie tells the story of Scott, who must fight his new girlfriend’s evil exes in order to win her heart. Those exes are played by a number of familiar faces, including “Fantastic Four’’ star Chris Evans, Brandon Routh of “Superman,’’ and Jason Schwartzman of “Rushmore.’’

For Kendrick, a 24-year-old Mainer who began traveling to New York to audition for Broadway shows when she was a kid, it’s been a weird and fast journey. What started with a Tony nomination for her role in “High Society’’ when she was just 12 has become a busy, A-list movie career that had her filming “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,’’ “Up in the Air,’’ and “Scott Pilgrim’’ at the same time. She just wrapped a movie (“Live With It’’) with Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon Levitt up in Canada. And soon, she’ll be back on the road to film yet another installment of “Twilight.’’

But the other day — during a stop in Boston to promote the Friday release of “Scott Pilgrim’’ — the very approachable and sensitive Kendrick was just happy to be home in New England.

Anna Kendrick talks ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World’

pilgrim1 Anna Kendrick talks Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

“The first time I met Edgar, it was like the earliest meeting I’d ever had. It was at 6:30 in the morning because I was getting on a plane to shoot the first ‘Twilight’ film,” explained Anna Kendrick.

Despite the inconveniently early morning meeting, she was excited when Wright explained the project to her and who would be cast as the evil exes.

“Just the idea of [Edgar] choosing young Hollywood and having them fight to the death for his amusement — all of a sudden I saw him as the evil puppet master of this whole thing,” she laughed.

Kendrick said of her character, Scott’s younger sister Stacey, “I feel like Stacey is sort of the voice in the back of everybody’s head that tells you this is a really messed-up decision you’re making, and you should not do this. But it’s the same voice that you know you’re not going to listen to. … She knows [Scott’s] not going to listen, and because she’s a younger sister I think she sort of takes pleasure in watching him flounder around in awkward situations.”

Kendrick even spoke to O’Malley’s real-life sister, Stacey, who was the basis for her character, in order to get some advice.

“The real Stacey told me I should try to play it ‘more half-Asian,’” she laughed. “I did my best.”

“You were doing it full Asian at first,” interjected Cera.

“Yeah, it was a mess,” Kendrick answered.

She then revealed that the name tag her character wore in the film had belonged to the real Stacey when she had worked at the same coffee shop. Wright pointed out that, underneath the name, the tag reads: “Certified Coffee Agent.”

Kendrick also joked that the film’s action sequences were very easy for her as her character was only a witness to the fights and never a participant.

From The Twilight Examiner

KLCC1 Twilight stars Kellan Lutz and Anna Kendrick hit up Comic Con party

On Saturday night, both Kellan Lutz (”Emmett Cullen”) and Anna Kendrick (”Jessica Stanley” in the Twilight series) hit up the EW and SyFy party at Hotel Solamar in San Diego, California following a full day at Comic-Con.

Kendrick has been at Comic-Con promoting Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World with her castmates Michael Cera, Kieran Culkin, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Anna Kendrick talked about Scott Pilgrim, saying that her character is the protagonist’s “moral compass.” She went on to discuss some of the film’s dynamics and the fact that some fans got to attend a private screening of the movie as well. You can watch the full interview here.

Of course, a couple of other Twilight stars have been seen around Comic-Con, including Michael Sheen (there promoting Tron: Legacy) and Cam Gigandet (for Priest).

Sheen talked to FEARnet about The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, saying “I’m hoping it’ll all work out” and that “There’s no script and nothing’s been set up definitely yet.”

Check out photos of Kellan Lutz and Anna Kendrick at the SyFy/EW party in the slideshow below!

Kristen Stewart wore a long navy blue Monique Lhullier dress to the 2010 Oscars on March 7, 2010. The dress was strapless, the waist appeared belted, and it looks gorgeous.  Anna Kendrick appeared in an Elie Saab dress, which I though looked beautiful on her as well, but didn’t earn her good reviews from the fashionistas. Taylor Lautner is listed as wearing a “nice black suit.”
