Michael Welch Interview With Blast Magazine

Blast Magazine has an interview with Michael Welch where he talks about filming ‘New Moon” and how the date scene with Jacob and Bella nearly wasn’t included in the film.

mike20newton 300x168 Michael Welch Interview With Blast Magazine

BLAST: So how was shooting in Vancouver different from Portland?

MW: Vancouver is one of my favorite cities, not only to film in but just to be in. I’ve shot a few different things over there over the past 10 years. I mean, Portland is great, there’s some great poetry and a great book store up there, but Vancouver, there’s just something about the way the city feels… That’s just the differences in the city, the differences in the films themselves, I mean, totally different. By the time “New Moon” rolled around, we tried to keep it as big a secret as we could [our locations], but it was impossible because all it took was one person to spot Rob or Taylor on the street and in 20 minutes there were hundreds of people there and there was paparazzi there and you know, it was just much more of an ordeal.

BLAST: Speaking of Portland, are you going to be at the Twilight Vampire Baseball Event?

MW: Over the July 4th weekend? Yeah yeah, it’s for charity, it’s a Make-A-Wish event.

BLAST: Bella does some crazy stuff in “New Moon.” Did you do anything so daring in high school?

MW: You know, [laughs] one thing that I used to do was go into the local high school with my car with my friend in the passenger seat and do really lame donuts and stuff and every now and then I’d get into little shenanigans like that. The most dangerous thing I did as a kid was, my grandma lived in the senior center, well not a senior center, more of a neighborhood. [Laughs] This is just so lame I can’t believe I’m telling you, anyway, and kids weren’t allowed to walk around unattended so my cousin and I would just walk around and avoid security.

BLAST: So you said at some point they almost didn’t include the movie scene in New Moon? What’s that about?

MW: You know it’s a tricky thing when you try and turn a book into a movie because a movie is only two hours and there’s only so much you can fit in, but yeah, what they originally did was they took that moment between Jacob and Bella and put it in a different scene of the movie. Luckily Taylor and Kristen lobbied that scene for me to Chris Weitz saying it absolutely had to be in, and it’s a good scene. They weren’t really lobbying for me, it’s just, how can you not have that scene in there? Yeah, so I was really happy to hear that, and it was great for me because I got to do Mike’s best scene in the book.

Actor Michael Welch tells MTV that he is concerned about Robert Pattinson after
hearing about the Cab incident that happened last week.

But as the cast of “Twilight” are discovering these days, Pattinson’s fame is getting dangerous.

“I don’t see how this is sustainable — is this gonna keep going for the rest of his life?” Welch asked of recent video footage that has Pattinson fleeing sobbing fans trying to hug him. “I understand it, it’s Edward Cullen, I get it. But he’s still Rob Pattinson first — he’s still his own guy. Is it time to start getting concerned here?

In the video, Peter talks about what he whispered in Robert’s ear just before he turned him into a vampire. It’s hilarious!

“I went to the Salute to Twilight Convention on May 3rd. Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen) was supposed to be there, but she had to be flown to Vancouver last minute to film New moon. They found a replacement, Edi Gathegi (Laurent). Peter Facinelli (Carlisle Cullen), Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen), and Michael Welch (Mike Newton) were also there. I also got pictures together with Peter and Kellan!! =) They are so adorable in person.” said luvallpups.

I hope she posts some of her pictures with Peter and Kellan. That would be great!

Two of CBA’s awesome readers, Chrissy & Marcella, just sent us their FABULOUS fan encounter with Kellan, Edi & Mike. Even though they didn’t have tickets, they decided to stop by the Grand Slam Sci-Fi Salute to Twilight Convention in LA on Sunday & boy did they get lucky!!

Kellan Lutz, Edi Gathegi, & Mike Welsh Fan Encounter At Salute to TwilightHere is part of what they had to say:

When we got there it was pretty late, around 5:30ish. We were on the way to buy the tickets but when we got to the room, from the looks of it they weren’t selling anymore tickets. So we went to the ladies rooms and we find our friends! we talked for awhile. So they went back in, we didn’t know what to do. We waited until people started going back into the main room. Once again we saw our friend, Jennifer. She told us if we walked by the green curtains we would get a to see Kellan Lutz, Peter Facinelli, Edi Gathegi, and Michael Welsh. OH yeah, she was so right!

Ade and I sit in a couch near the green curtains, and the closes to the curtains was Michael Welsh! I was trying to take pictures but no flash allowed so I was scared, once Michael looked my way, I waved! he waved back! he also saw that I was trying to get a picture of him so he waited and smiled at the same time! Mike is awesome. But stupid camera wasn’t working with me.

After that, Ade finally got up to see what they were doing. She saw them all get up, to take a little break. She grabbed me and told me we needed to go! So I listened and went along with her. She took us to the end of the rooms, not knowing what she was doing until we stopped. She told me she saw them go into a room. So I was like oh OK! this way. We made our way to the middle of the open room and lo and behold! Michael Welsh is walking towards us! first thing we do is smile and ask if we could get a picture with him *they weren’t allowed to take pictures with anyone* As he was walking away he said, yeah, but I stopped because he kept walking, he kinda give me the face like “I’m sorry, I would take the picture but this dude won’t let me.” *there was a guy with him at all times* :( He saw that I kind of made a sad face, so he came back and say, “OK, let’s go, and remember no one is supposed to know this happened.” Boy was I happy! we decided to take the picture as a group instead of solo, just because of the guy! darn that guy.

So we made our way down the hall at the end of the door, there were couches there also. We sat there not knowing what to do. As soon as I look up, the door opens in front of us, and our comes Edi Gathegi! Looked as if he was happy to see us there! He was very jumpy and had a big smile on his face. He came over and greeted us, giving us hugs! We asked if we could get a picture and he said sure! I went first, and then Ade. Just as soon as I was taking her picture out come Kellan Lutz! I swear to you, I yelled his name the loudest I could, but it was loud enough for a mouse to hear, nothing came out it was just a little, “Kellannn” but the weird part was it was like he heard me calling his name, because he looked at me once I said his name. I was speechless, Ade was calling him over but he walked away. It was so fast I didn’t believe he was there! but then one second later, he came right back and gave Ade a hug, his BEAR HUG! love it! and they took a picture. I was next! he gave me the biggest hug!! another bear hug, took me off the ground hug! I didn’t let go, I wanted a picture also, but like I said I didn’t let go forgetting the camera was in my hand the whole time. But then we let go, I handed Ade the camera, and she snapped one and then he smiled thanking us for being there and left. They were being rushed by some people, the twilighters were waiting to see them! Can we get any luckier? They are the best!

Talk about hitting the jack-pot! You can read their full experience HERE on their blog Whatzz Poppin.

Thanks so much for sending this to us Chrissy & Marcella! Love your blog by the way.

Michael Welch On CSI This Week
Apr 12

Categories: michael welch

Mike is going to be guest starring on CSI this week on the episode entitled “Space Oddity”. Twilight Lexicon has a bit more info on the episode:

Normally on straight dramas this might mean a parade of geeks, costumes, and the other outward trappings of fandom; but the feel of the episode is more like a lush tribute to a (fictional) classic series secretly loved by both Hodges (Wallace Langham) and Wendy (Liz Vassey). It seems the two run into each other at a convention for the series, only to end up investigating the death of one of the show’s beloved actors.

CSI went to some trouble to bring in known sci-fi talent both in front of and behind the cameras. The teleplay is by David Weddle and Bradley Thompson, former staff writers on Battlestar Galactica, and sometime Battlestar director Michael Nanking was brought in to direct the episode.

The episode will air this Thursday, April 16th, at 9pm on CBS.

The preview is posted below.

Thanks for the story, Raquel!

How great is it that Stephenie is so on-hands with the filming process? It just makes us love her and the movies that much more.

Thanks Twilight-Gossip for sharing the pictures, and thank you Sue who took the pictures. See more pics HERE.

Michael Welch Interview

mike2 Michael Welch InterviewWho doesn’t love Michael Welch after the outstanding performance he gave in Twilight as Mike Newton? Our affiliate, Touched By Twilight, had the opportunity to interview Mike recently, here is a sample:

The scene in the diner, with Mike dancing outside the window… improv or scripted? Were you encouraged to improve or did you have to stick straight to the script?

There was a lot of improve in this film for the humans (Eric, Tyler, Angela, Jessica, and Me). Catherine didn’t really care whether dialogue or actions were improvised or scripted, or whether ideas came from her or the cast. Her priority was to create something real, empathetic, and entertaining for the audience. She always had respect for OUR role in the overall story, and our purpose in Bella’s life. And having made several movies on the subject, Catherine has a lot of experience in trying to capture the essence of teenagers.

In the case of the diner, the process went like this… The script said something like, “Mike waves and calls out, trying to get Bella’s attention.” Catherine showed me where this will take place, suggested a couple of ideas, and ultimately left it up to me to come up with something that works. I thought of that dance (for whatever reason), showed her, and she approved. Later in post-production, she had me come into a sound studio to record some various, “Bow chicka WOW wow. WOO WOOO!” whacky noises. She picks one of three choices, and there you have it. Mike Newton in all his goofy glory, dancing for the affections of Bella.
