To Start Your Week – Redemption Fanmade Muse/New Moon Video

Really well done video entry for a MUSE contest on youtube. (Go vote for her if you like it!) Describes visually, Edward’s redemption by Bella in New Moon.  Love the blending in the first half or so. Also especially good is how the music matches Bella’s running for Edward in Volterra. Pretty nice, don’t you think?

Volterra, Italy Promotes its New Moon Connection

By Don Faust, www.DonFaustPhoto, for USA TODAY

Chris Gray Faust, of USA TODAY, had an informative article about Volterra, with its real Palazzo dei Priori, and Montepulciano, where New Moon was actually filmed. The photos from the New Moon Tour in Volterra are both beautiful and very interesting. The Volterra tourism board sponsors Twilight-themed weekends, including a reception with blood in what appears to be test tubes? Cool!

‘Part of a dark tradition’

Perhaps that’s because Volterra is doing everything possible to make sure that New Moon is synonymous with their city — even if it isn’t the one on screen. The town sent a team of colorfully dressed flag throwers to the Rome Film Festival last month, where they walked the red carpet behind the movie’s actors.

Not all cities would embrace vampires, particularly one with as proud a history. One of the 12 Etruscan power centers from the sixth to fourth century B.C. built on an economy of alabaster, iron and salt, Volterra boasts one of the largest collections of that civilization’s artifacts at the Guarnacci Etruscan Museum. A Roman amphitheater outside the town walls dates to the first century, and its medieval center remains one of the best preserved in Italy.

On his twice-weekly New Moon walking tours, guide Vincenzo Riolo sandwiches history between the fiction. “We try to connect the vampires to the Etruscans,” he says just outside Porta all’ Arco, a city gate built in the fourth century B.C. “It’s part of the dark tradition of the city.”

But of course, it’s the fanged ones that the teenagers want to see. The only English speakers in a group of Italian Twilight fans, Kunke and Regier, of Vancouver, giggle and snap photos in Volterra’s narrow alleys, trying to scare each other. “Omigod, is that a bat?” Kunke says.

Riolo leads the tour into a dark building, where they walk down a clammy staircase.

Waiting at the bottom: two cloaked men and a small woman, all deathly pale. “The Volturi!” Regier gasps.

The vampires walk silently among the tourists, pulling “victims” up on a stone table. The girls huddle closer together. “This is creepy,” Kunke whispers — before a vampire grabs Regier. As he attempts to bite her, she dissolves into laughter.

After the tableau, the tour-goers relive their New Moon moments over drinks. Turns out that the actors who played the Volturi are members of Compagnia della Fortezza — a theater troupe of convicts named after Volterra’s Medici-era fortress-turned-prison.

For once, Kunke and Regier are speechless. Guide Riolo laughs at their shocked expressions.

“Nothing is strange here,” he says later. “It’s part of our DNA.”

Statue of St. Marcus in Italy?

Twilight Italia’s Alice was in Montepulciano taking more pictures of the square that will be used for the Volterra scenes in New Moon, where she was only able to take a couple of pictures before being told she wasn’t allowed to be there.  Here are some of the pictures she was able to walk away with:

saintmarcus 224x300 Statue of St. Marcus in Italy?

throne 300x224 Statue of St. Marcus in Italy?

gutter 300x224 Statue of St. Marcus in Italy?

The first picture appears to be a statue of a saint, possibly Marcus.  The second picture is possibly the throne that Marcus, Aro, and Caius sit on.  The third is a storm drain that was installed in the square for filming.

Special thanks to Alice for taking these pictures!  Thanks to Raven over at Twilight Italia for sending them to us.

Twilighters Italia sent us new pics of the fountain and the red flags that they’re putting up in preparation for Saint Marcus Day.

Just a fast update on what is going on in Montepulciano…

They’re preparing for Saint Marcus day!

Today a pickup loaded with red flags and ensigns was spotted in the main square, piazza grande.

A few hours later all over the front of the cityhall there were those flags pinned.

Meanwhile the fountain is now almost finished and today it was painted with waterproof so now it seems a little more whitish!

Thanks to Twilighters Italia for sending us the update and pics!!

Celebrate Saint Marcus Day March 19th
Mar 17

Categories: Saint marcus day

In honor of Saint Marcus Day on Thursday, March 19th the Twilight Examiner wants us to wear red & then send them our pics of it.

In Stephenie Meyer’s New Moon, March 19th was a date of some significance – St. Marcus Day, the day when St. Marcus supposedly rid the Italian city of Volterra of all vampires (though secretly allowed for the Volturi vampires to hide out in the city without curiosity). The town of Volterra teemed with red as Bella and Alice raced through the streets to get to the would-be self-sacrificing Edward Cullen.

In honor of this intricate but important detail to the New Moon novel that we fans would like to see on screen, and to show your support for a faithful book-to-film translation of New Moon by Chris Weitz (one which would have Robert Pattinson amidst a sea of garnet and red celebrants of St. Marcus Day, with Kristen Stewart and Ashley Greene, as Bella Swan and Alice Cullen, fighting against this sea of red to make it to Edward before the clock strikes twelve) wear something red this Thursday, March 19th.

Email your pics to thetwilightexaminer@gmail.com.

Timeline Of Volterra in New Moon

timeline Timeline Of Volterra in New Moon
Twilight Italia included this really great timeline with their email to CBA. This is a timeline of Volterra throughout the events of “New Moon”. You can click on the picture above for a slightly larger version.

Twilight Italia has also posted some wonderful quotes that Stephenie Meyer said about Volterra, Italy (translated through Google):

“Volterra .. the square with clock tower of which I wrote about in the book,I had materialized on the screen … If you think I still have the chills .. “
Stephenie Meyer. 19/05/2007

“I immediately went onto the website of that town, and got a shock. In fact, the square with the clock tower, which I described in my book, materialized itself on my screen! It was Piazza dei Priori! If I think about it, it gives me the chills…Thus I chose the title for that chapter was “Volterra” and I decided to launch the book in that town. In actual fact, to tell the truth, I was curious to see were the Voltura live, and so I decided to come here. What a marvelous place! “
Stephenie Meyer. 05/19/2007

volterraspot Help Get "New Moon" Filmed In Volterra
Twilight Italia has contacted us via email to request our help in their petition to get the filming of “New Moon” to Volterra, Italy.

We’d like to humbly ask for your support for an *important* initiative to help the City of Volterra host the filming of New Moon and to show you some great material we created.

Summit Entertainment confirmed that part of the movie filming will be done in Italy. However, the town of Volterra is seriously risking of not being consideredas the location for the filming.

This is why we wanted to show you the real Volterra.
We went there. We tracked the “real” steps of Alice, Bella and Edward inVolterra with beautiful photos and videos.

Here is one of the videos that they have made to show us Volterra:

You can go here to watch the videos.

Go here to see all that they have posted on New Moon and Volterra.

Make sure you sign the petition here to help them out! “New Moon” wouldn’t be the same without the real Volterra, right?
