ClevverTV talked with Twilight’s Chaske Spencer on the set of his public service announcement for Shift The Power To the People. The goal of the PSA is to raise awareness for the recent storms that have devastated the people of South Dakota leaving over 9000 people without heat, power, water or food. Chaske asks that you call your congressmen and senators to request support.

Joslyn tries hard to get Chaske to talk about Twilight!  They do discuss the wolf pack, working out, Taylor Lautner, and touches generally on Eclipse and New Moon.  Chaske says he is really curious what David Slade will come up with for Eclipse.

Saw some of Alez Meraz’ work today and it was so interesting, I wanted to share it. Just another example of how very talented our Twilight Saga cast is! Besides his film work Alex does painting and dance.

Quoting Alex:

“With painting, you’re showing more of a subconscious level of your work. The gratification is immediate. Dance is the same way. It’s real, and its organic, but I feel like you can hide behind your body. With acting, you can’t. You have to be very honest. You have to try and translate emotions that everyone has gone through.”

Here is a picture of the yummy birthday cake Alex Meraz was surprised with tonight at the Creation Entertainment Twilight Convention in Seattle.  I understand they sang Happy Birthday too!  His birthday was the 9th.

Seattle is the place to be this weekend, January 15-17, for Twilight fans. The Official Twilight Convention heads to it’s second stop of 2010.

Cast appearances include: Peter Facinelli (appearing Friday), Chaske Spencer (appearing Saturday and Sunday), Alex Meraz (appearing Sunday), Bronson Pelletier (appearing Sunday), Kiowa Gordon (appearing Sunday), Daniel Cudmore (appearing Saturday), and Charlie Bewley (appearing Saturday).

The Hillywood Show, who recently released their New Moon Parody, will be the hosts for the entire weekend.

Musical guests for the Friday night concert include Candace Charee’ and Reggie Ginn.

And the Saturday night Volturi Vampire Ball will include special appearances by Chaske Spencer, Daniel Cudmore, and Charlie Bewley.

Alex Meraz, who plays Paul in The Twilight Saga, took time to visit Grand Rapids, Michigan, which happens to be the hometown of Taylor Lautner.

Alex Meraz’s top priority for visiting his “New Moon’ co-star Taylor Lautner’s hometown?

“(The Twilight Saga) is a love story, yes,” he said, attempting to explain the appeal of the books and movies that have captivated so many. “But more so, in this day and age, of war and financial crises, people want to go to a place of fantasy.”

“I definitely drank some of the water,” the actor said before he signed autographs and snapped photos with approximately 1,000 “Twilight” fans before Saturday’s Griffins game. “I want to pop a couple more abs (like Lautner).”

A virtual unknown before inhabiting the role of werewolf Paul, Meraz was friendly and smiling as he greeted smitten fans. Among those thrilled: a pack of teen girls from Forest Hills Central High School, who had won tickets to the game and the chance to meet Meraz at a VIP autograph session before the general signing event organized by the clothing store Platos Closet.

Starry-eyed after meeting Meraz, they were iffy on whether their allegiance had shifted from “Team Jacob” (fans of Lautner’s character, Jacob Black, and by association his werewolf pack), and “Team Edward” (fans of Robert Pattinson’s character, Edward Cullen).

“If it were Team (Alex Meraz), then yes, I would have switched,” said Madeline Martin, 17. Her pals Skylar Grant and Hilary Spruit, both 17, concurred. “I’m on ‘Team No Shirt,’” joked Grant.

Teenage girls were not the only demographic represented in the line to meet Meraz. Sara Heacox, 32, of Grand Haven was sporting a “Twilight Moms” tee shirt over her pregnant belly. Heacox is the book-of-the-month moderator for Twilightmoms.com, and recently met author Stephenie Meyer when she appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

“Those of us in ‘Twilight Moms’ tend to follow the actors in the movies, and (Meraz) is one of my favorites,” she said. “He paints and reads. He recently Tweeted that he was reading “Water for Elephants” (by Sara Gruen). I was impressed.”

Meraz, wearing a thin sweater and “weak little jacket,” admitted he was “underdressed” for Michigan’s bluster. His werewolf character, Paul, would never be caught under-prepared for the elements; after all, he can shapeshift into a snarling, furry monster at will.

“(Paul) is unapologetic about what and who he is and his role as a protector,” Meraz said.

The 24-year-old father of one promises that “Eclipse,” the third movie in the “Twilight Saga” franchise, will find Paul “hairier and scarier. The werewolves team up with the Cullens, and it’s a whole bigger thing.”

With his career launched into orbit by the extraordinary success of “New Moon,” the Arizona native is in talks with film producers to appear in more movies. Unless lightening strikes twice, though, Meraz may never be a part of a worldwide pop culture phenomenon like the one he’s in the middle of right now.

During this time of year, it’s not uncommon for numerous websites and media outlets to conduct year-end polls of all sorts. Over the last two years especially, it seems that Twilight and New Moon have dominated nearly every one in some way, shape, or form. Here is another one I stumbled across today. Celebrity-Mania.com polled its readers and came up with its list of the Top Sexiest Actors of 2009. Not one, not two, but THREE New Moon actors made the list and…*GASP*…Robert Pattinson is NOT one of them.

#9 “Alex Meraz never got the chance to expose his chiseled torso. When he was involved in the production of Chris Weitz-directed movie ‘The Twilight Saga’s New Moon‘ however, the Paul depicter was seen flashing his amazing abs as he took on the role of wolf pack’s volatile member. His downside, in the meantime, is the fact that he prefers donning casual outfits instead of sporting formal suits while attending special events. Still, the 24-year-old can be expected to show off his ripped body in ‘The Twilight Saga’s Eclipse.’”

#1 “Taylor Lautner had to thank his hot bod for keeping his Jacob Black role in ‘Twilight Saga’s New Moon‘. After almost getting cut back due to his boyish appearance, he bulked up and impressed many when taking off his shirt in lots of his scenes for the Chris Weitz-directed film. A plus point for this 17-year-old is that he knows how to style himself. He is often seen donning suit as well as stylish outfit whenever he has to attend formal event. And, there will be plenty more of him to see as the ‘Twilight Saga‘ continues.”

Alex Meraz who plays “Paul” in New Moon visited the crowd waiting in line for the premiere on Friday, Nov 13th. We were all so excited! I got a call from @kimrocha telling me that Alex had just tweeted he was going to visit fans in line. We were on wolf alert. Then I saw a SUV drive by with Alex in the passenger seat. After driving by 2 times finally, Alex came walking around the corner. He took pictures & signed autographs with everyone in line. Even though it was a very chilly evening but Alex’s visit made us all feel warm & so did his hugs! RAWR!!!!!
