In a press release today, Summit revealed details of the past weekend’s New Moon DVD sales, saying they have surpassed the first weekend sales of Twilight, selling just over 4 million DVD units in New Moon’s first weekend of release.Quoting Summit, ” As we have said all along, the fans are what make this franchise and we once again thank them for their support.” Here is the full press release from Summit:

In addition, this free event will be the kick-off fundraiser for our two charities, Alex’s Lemonade Stand (fighting childhood cancer) and The Preservation of the Quileute Tradition and Language (endorsed by the Quileute Tribal Council).
