Hurricane Bells’ “Monster” was famously featured in New Moon during the parking lot scene, where Edward walks in slow motion, then gives us his sexy, crooked little smile. Personally, this was my favorite song on the soundtrack.

Tommy2.net is reporting that there will be a new Twilight Saga: New Moon CD released few days before the release of the film on DVD and Blu-ray. The second volume of the “Twilight Saga” New Moon” soundtrack is reported to be in stores March 16th. The new 9-track disc will be composed of bonus tracks from both the deluxe iTunes edition and international editions of the original version of the soundtrack .

The Twilight Saga: New Moon Soundtrack Companion

Last year Twilight got a deluxe soundtrack before the DVD release and it looks like New Moon will get one too, only a little different. On March 16th (4 days before the DVD release), The Twilight Saga: New Moon Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Companion will be released. But instead of a couple new tracks, it will consist of the bonus tracks from the international copies of the soundtrack provided by artists that lived in the region it was released in with the exception of Japan’s track, Miliyah Kato’s “Destiny”, but that could be because she has it as a b-side to one of her singles and it wasn’t exclusive to the soundtrack. The artwork hasn’t been completed yet, but here is the tracklist for the CD and DVD.

Both the Twilight and New Moon Original Soundtracks were amongst the top selling for 2009.  According to Media Traffic, Twilight came in at #18 with 2.4 million copies sold. And The Twilight Saga: New Moon placed in at #34 with 1.5 million copies.

Beverly Hills, CA —Sixty-three songs from eligible feature-length motion pictures are contending for nominations in the Original Song category for the 82nd Academy Awards®, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today.

The original songs, along with the motion picture in which each song is featured, are listed below in alphabetical order by song title:

On Tuesday, January 12, the Academy will screen clips featuring each song, in random order, for voting members of the Music Branch in Los Angeles. Following the screenings, members will determine the nominees by an averaged point system vote. If no song receives an average score of 8.25 or more, there will be no nominees in the category. If only one song achieves that score, it and the song receiving the next highest score shall be the two nominees. If two or more songs (up to five) achieve that score, they shall be the nominees.

A DVD copy of the song clips will be made available to those branch members who are unable to attend the screening and who request it for home viewing. A mail-in ballot will be provided.

A maximum of two songs may be nominated from any one film. If more than two songs from a film are in contention, the two songs with the most votes will be the nominees.

To be eligible, a song must consist of words and music, both of which are original and written specifically for the film. A clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition of both lyric and melody must be used in the body of the film or as the first music cue in the end credits.

The 82nd Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Lupe Fiasco has made public a music video supporting his single “Solar Midnite” which serves as one of the bonus tracks for digital version of “The Twilight Saga’s New Moon” soundtrack. He is seen jamming with his band with scenes from the vampire film intercepting.

3. Hearing Damage by Thom Yorke

Definently one of the big dogs on this album, Thom is best known for leading the band Radiohead (one of my faves n the ’90s). So the fact that they landed him on the soundtrack was pretty awesome to me. And he did not let me down with Hearing Damage. This is definitely immediately post break up, possible even while Bella is still in the woods.

It is very much Thom’s style, and I really dig the music behind the lyrics as much as the lyrics themselves. It makes me feel like my head is buzzing, similar to how it may feel after some traumatic experience (like a breakup). You digging it? You should also check out Thom Yorke’s The Eraser.

4. Possibility by Lykke Li

Warning. This is pretty much my favorite song on the album. It makes me want to cry because there is so much hurt and pain in the lyrics. Another post break up song, for sure. This could also be in the woods, but I can picture this one with Bella just laying in the bed and mourning. I picture those pages with the months passing and it just hurts.

So tell me when you hear my heart stop, you’re the only one that knows. Tell me when you hear my silence, there’s a possibility I wouldn’t know.
So tell me when my silence’s over, you’re the reason why I’m closed. Tell me when you hear me falling, there’s a possibility it wouldn’t show.

Geez, I’m listening to it right now and the music with Lykke’s haunting voice is just killer. I love it, a lot. I will definitely be checking out her album Youth Novels.

5. A White Demon Love Song by The Killers

The other big dog on the album, The Killers, wrote what I think is a really great Jacob song. Yes, I equate white demon with Edward and only Jacob would call him a demon. The lyrics are really describing how this demon is haunting Bella and Jacob wants to become the recipient of that love.
