According to Chris Weitz, the band Muse will be featured on the soundtrack for New Moon. Amanda Bell at the Examiner has an article discussing this news and the reaction that non Twilight fans of the band are expressing.

Here are a couple of comments that were left on the article:

* “From an Atheist’s point of view, for me to be praying to ‘god’ for Muse to not be on the next stupid Twilight soundtrack, that’s pretty serious.”
* “i’m sick of muses epicness being tainted by the lameness that is twilight”
* “I don’t want to have to fight pre-teen girls for tickets to a live show”
* “really? seriously people, LEAVE MUSE ALONE!! the are not ‘the twilight band’ they are MUSE and they are better than twilight. I’m sick of all these people saying that they are muse fans when the only song they know is SMBH.”
* “many fans hope and expect that their music will make a return visit to the twilight music?, who are those fans, really?”
* “Most Muse fans HATE the fact that they have been thrown into the whole Twilight mess… seeing as it brought on a plague of people who only appreciate it because it was in a crappy movie adaptation of a stupid book. If Muse is in New Moon i will cry.”

You get the idea. There were two basic principles echoed in the commentary. The first was a distaste for the novels; fair enough. The second was a large presumption based on a small set of experiences; not so fair, perhaps.

Some of us who happen to be Twilight fans actually liked Muse way back when. My own experience was that I bought Absolution on a whim, loved it, and played the entire album again and again and again any time I was in a bad way (the converse is true for Elliott Smith’s XO). Perhaps it is the minority circumstance to have had an appreciation for Muse’s work before it became involved in the Twilight series, but perhaps it is not.

In any case, New Moon’s director Chris Weitz, told the L.A. Times recently that the soundtrack will indeed have Muse as one of its feature artists (alongside Radiohead and Band of Skulls).

I never even HEARD of Muse before Twilight.

OK first:
I was a huge Muse waaay before i even knew what Twilight was!

2nd:
There fans are saying for “twilight fans” to leave Muse alone but, umm, Muse are teh ones signing the contracts to join! theyre not forced by Twilight Fans! Theyre choosing to do this!

3rd: If u were a true fan you would happy that they are being successful in their music and getting more fans! Whether theyre twilight fans or not!

I will admit it drove me nuts when people my age *I’m 21* went thru the whole obsession with Muse just because they’re obsessed with Twilight. But I don’t wish anything ill toward them lol most of the Twilight fans only know of SMBH anyways so I just stink to my favs. and let them have theirs lol

The fans need to chill out. No one forced Muse to do another song. They know where the money is and yes I liked Muse before Twilight but lets face it they got tons of exposure by having Supermassive Blackhole on the soundtrack. Just like Paramore did, Muse was a band that had a lot of fans but now has tons more. They arent stupid. That is really smart that they want to do a song for the soundtrack. Just because they are on the soundtrack doesnt make them a “Twilight Band” they are musicians and most bands would love to be in that position. Get over it lame fans.

That’s ridiculous. Muse fans need to happy for their band and no it doesn’t make them a Twilight band.

Well, maybe I’m not the best one to give and opinion since I’ve been a fan of Muse way, way before I even heard of Twilight and obviously being a fan of both I’d love them to be on the soundtrack again.

I can understand the fans point of view though, but they need to remember that Muse wouldn’t be on a soundtrack if they didn’t want to be on it, it’s their choice.

Yes, the ne ‘fans’ because of Twilight are annoying, even I think that, but it’s the same when a band has a hit single on the radio. Then there are lot’s of ‘fans’ who only know one song too, this is no different.

I like Muse b4 twilight even was heard of..before the book & movie! I think its stupid to mad that they will be appearing on the new moon cd. they have great music & whatever song they are going to use im sure its because it will fit the mood just like in twilight. and like ashley said on her 2nd & 3rd comments are true! I think its stupid just to even be upset about it. lol

I have loved Muse for ages and was extremely glad when i was reading about Stephenie Meyer and found out she was a Muse fan, so when the baseball scene came on at the cinema I’m sure I was grinning! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I think it’s a bit silly for the ‘fans’of Muse not to be happy for them to get more fans, Muse obviously are happy for their songs to be in Twilight otherwise they wouldn’t have allowed it!

i have never been to any kind of concert especially anything like this. so when i found out they were coming to knoxville to promote this movie for a good cause i got so excited about it. so if you all could please let me know where i can get tickets so that i can go and meet these wonderful people especially taylor and kristin.
