This is usually the time of year that we love. Summer is on the way, which means the MTV Movie Awards will be as well. The show will air June 3rd, but fans of the show got a shocking announcement according to The Hollywood Reporter:

The MTV Movie Awards is classing up its act. For the venerable celebration of Hollywood’s 21st edition in June, multiple awards categories have been dropped, a few others added, and the network has installed an “academy” of actors, producers, agents and other industry insiders to vote on nominees, including a “breakthrough performance” award voted on by directors. Although the network won’t reveal voter names, the panel strategy is similar to the one used for the annual Video Music Awards and is designed to broaden the nominees and winners and lend some credibility to an event that has been criticized as merely a venue for Hollywood to promote its summer blockbusters.

While the now-iconic “best kiss” and “best fight” awards aren’t going anywhere, new categories this year are designed to deepen the movie-music connection. For instance, the “best music” award will go to the song that is most effectively used in a scene. It’s meant to honor all of those unsung music supervisors.

Ironically, the show is being “revamped”, but a lot of fans of the show and in the fandom are complaining that this is just a way to make sure certain awards, even if voted by the fans, do not dominate. Fan favorites have always dominated the show, but apparently this new system will shake things up. This was the case long before Twilight even made an appearance. Blockbuster hits and fandom faves usually dominate at the award show…..Lord of the Rings won 3 years in a row for Best Movie….and most of the winners since the beginning of the award show are popular films with a strong fanbase, so what’s up with the change?

Of course this has also brought on even more backlash from haters of Twilight who blame it for the change. Comments range from bashing the actors and films to more personal attacks with name calling. Now let’s think about this for a second. People are upset that Twilight wins awards at this award show? Some are even mad that Rob and Kristen keep winning best kiss. Let’s look at some of the past winners of the Best Kiss Award: 2008 – Briana Evgian and Robert Hoffman for Step Up 2 , 2007 -Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen for Talladega Nights. Every once in a great while, awards go to films that are critically acclaimed, like Brokeback Mountain, but let’s ground ourselves in reality. The MTV Movie Awards are for the fans. They have never been the Oscars and never will be. Where was all this backlash when Lord of the Rings won three years in a row or Step Up 2 won for Best Kiss?

It seems the main issue is a growing trend of hating maliciously on Twilight, the actors, and fandom. I am not saying that MTV made the move solely because of Twilight, but it has become “cool” to hate on the franchise and these haters forget about the history of the award show and what it represents. It represents the voice of the fans and is supposed to be about having a good time. I guess that has gotten lost somewhere along the way.

So what does everyone think? Does it get you excited for November or were you expecting it to be a bit more? It definitely fits with the motif of past tiles, but the golden color makes it a bit bland in my opinion. At the same time, I can appreciate the idea of it being golden, which of course reminds me of the Cullens’ eye color.

There’s a chance The Twilight Saga could continue after the fifth film opens in November.

The bombshell was reportedly dropped by Jon Feltheimer, the chief executive officer of Lionsgate Entertainment, which acquired Twilight studio Summit Entertainment for $412.5 million on Friday.

“I’m anticipating Breaking Dawn – Part 2 being $700 million-plus in worldwide box office,” said Feltheimer of the final (planned) installment in the hit vampire franchise.

According to the Los Angeles Times, when asked whether Lionsgate could envision more Twilight past next fall’s fifth film, Feltheimer left the door open.

“It’s hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn’t have ongoing value,” he said. “It’s an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration.”

He added, “So the simple answer is, ‘Boy, I hope so.’”

It’s not clear whether a potential continuation would involve future films or a television series.

When Rob was announced to attend the 2012 PCA, we knew he would not disappoint, so it is no surprise that he created such a buzz at the event. I am not a big fan of the award show, but seeing Rob accept the award for Best Movie Drama for Water for Elephants was nice. Having Ashley hand him the award was a nice touch as well. Of course the main buzz was over his hair. For some reason, anytime the man decides to get a new haircut, people freak out like he has never had one before. This is not the first time he has shaved off his locks even before the films wrapped…..I still remember the cute buzz cut at the end of 2008 and the hysteria created over his Cosmopolis hairdo last year….and I am sure it will not be his last. I think it looks great, but what does everyone else think? Sound off in the comments section.

Usually I write an editorial/review about the films, but I thought it would be nice if we could get a discussion going in the comment section about the movie. With so much anticipation building up to today, let us know if Breaking Dawn Part 1 lived up to the hype. Was the wedding epic enough? Were there enough feathers and damage to the headboard? Was something added that you loved or left out that made you disappointed? I plan on seeing it today and have heard some amazing reviews by fans, some mixed, and some negative, so sound off in the comment section. I will do the same! Last weekend, I was lucky enough to attend the Breaking Dawn Convention. It was a blast and being able to see the stars up close was amazing. Tinsel and Boo Boo attended the entire convention and made it very memorable for everyone. Things were electric when the Cullen cast, Rob, Kristen, Taylor, and Condon took the stage. It was very interesting to hear Melissa Rosenburg explain scenes she wrote in or kept out of the films. She was asked about several parts of Eclipse and her answers were not the most satisfactory, so she finally just said that the characters in the books are different from the characters in the films, especially Bella who she called “proactive” in the films. It was nice to see her answer the tough questions and not dodge them. We were shown special footage from the film, which only made me want to see it more! You can check out my pictures here!

Summit released the following information and rules about the Breaking Dawn Part 1 Premiere:

TWILIGHT Fans are allowed to begin lining up for camping in Tent City at NOKIA PLAZA L.A. LIVE at 6:00am PT on Thursday, November 10, 2011. No fans are allowed to line-up prior to that time.  The location and start of the official fan camp line will be set by Summit Event Security and all other non-official lines will not be recognized.

Overnight camping is allowed in designated areas only, starting in the Nokia Plaza. Please follow all directions advised by L.A. LIVE and Summit security. Please note, that special wristbands will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and each fan must be present to receive a wristband. Each wristband will be numbered and reserves a space in the Fan Viewing areas for the BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 Red Carpet arrivals in sequential order. Every individual who is granted access into Tent City will be entered into a database that matches them with their unique wristband number. The wristbands DO NOT enable access to the Movie Premiere.

Fans will be asked to change location as Premiere set up begins in the Nokia Plaza on Monday morning November 14 at 6:00am PT. This will be the only relocation during the camping event.

PARTIAL LIST OF RULES AND CODES OF CONDUCT:

·        ONLY Standard Sized Pop Tents will be allowed (4′x4′ [16 sq. ft.] or less. No oversized tents, staked tents, etc., due to limited space)

·        ABSOLUTELY No Drugs or Alcohol allowed on premises

·        No Cooking On-Site or open flame

·        No horseplay. If anyone dumps food or beverages on another camper, they will be subject for removal

·        No amplified music. All music devices must be used with headset or earphone

·        Smoking in Designated Areas Only outside of the NOKIA Plaza boundaries

·        Fans are responsible for their own property. LA Live, AEG, nor Summit is responsible for any lost or stolen items

·        Everyone must please pick up after themselves. A fine will be enforced for anyone who litters on Nokia or LA City property

·        Please only use the restrooms designated for fans and respect the other area businesses

·        Guests must follow the rules and directions of L.A. LIVE Management/Summit Security at all times

WRIST BAND DETAILS AND EVENT DAY LINE UP TIMES

Twilight fans will be given wristbands starting at 6:00am PT on Thursday, November 10 2011. Wristbands MUST be worn until the premiere is over. Any wristband that has been tampered with or removed will NOT be considered valid. Any fan arriving without wearing the original wristband they were provided will not be allowed into the viewing area. There will be periodic spot checks through November 14, the day of the event.

I originally planned on attending the premiere and I wish I could go to both, but I have decided to go to the Los Angeles Convention instead. Is anyone attending the premiere? Let us know in the comment section.

The complaint is that Breaking Dawn Part 2 comes out “too late” and fans will have to wait “too long” in order to actually see the last film. There is even a petition out to try to change the date to a summer release like they did with Eclipse. I have a different outlook on the situation though, so here is a list of reasons why Breaking Dawn Part 2 coming out in November 2012 is a good thing, I think.

1.  The longer the wait, the more time we have to experience the saga in film form. The quicker the films come out, the quicker it will all be over. Let’s enjoy the promos and buildup of Part 1 and then have a year to prepare ourselves for the end of the franchise. It is going to suck when it happens, so I am all for prolonging it.

2. Condon needs the time. Poor Bill had to direct two films back to back and while the filming of both is essentially over, his job is far from it. He has been finalizing Part 1, the score, and the soundtrack in the past months, plus doing promotional work. He has to decide what will go on the Breaking Dawn Part 1 DVD, which will release before Part 2 comes out, and he still has to focus on the final film of the franchise. Everything he had to do for Part 1 must be done for Part 2 as well, so let’s give Condon some time to make it epic. That is a reason why Chris Weitz did not direct Eclipse even though the cast, crew, and studio loved him. There was no way he would have time to do both with such a quick turnaround. Poor Bill has his work cut out for him.

3. November is a tradition. Eclipse is the only film that broke that mold and some of us, including me, were not happy with the summer release. Twilight films are in a category of their own and they should be treated like it. Summer releases are for overhyped blockbuster films, like superhero films, but Twilight is different. November holds a dear place in my heart because I love seeing the films during that time, so let’s embrace that.

4. This last year is going to go by extremely fast. This will be it. We have 398 days until the final film of the franchise comes out and I think time is going to blur by, so let’s try to enjoy it and live in the now instead of having all this talk about making demands to move the last film closer to its end.

I will admit when they first announced it would be two parts, I was annoyed because I felt that Summit was just prolonging the end to their cash cow….and they are…..but now I see the upside for us as fans. We have been given more time to drool over our favorite cast, love the interviews, indulge in fan events, wait impatiently for released material, and be the epic fandom that we are. Let’s sit back, try to relax, and enjoy the experience. It will be over soon enough.
