I’ve read some other really well written stories that go over why Edward left and I think that although they are wonderful pieces of writing, they don’t capture his reasoning at all.  This story, to me, does.  He is not cruel and thoughtless.  He is not arrogant, thinking he knows better.  He truly believes “She is going to be better off without me!!”

“But, perhaps I could right some of the wrong I had done by making the hardest choice of all. I would prove my love to her in the healthiest and most selfless manner I could. I would walk away from her now, before it was too late. I would never move on, never love anyone else for as long as I walked this earth, but she could. She could have a normal life, she could live it to the fullest, and she could go to heaven someday when that life was over.”

“Are you sure about this kid,” Emmett said quietly, startling me as he came up behind me. I was so lost in my pain that I didn’t hear him coming.
“I have to be,” I replied sternly as I stood up. “I have to do what’s right for her. As much as I want to be with her, last night made me realize I can’t be, so I have to let her go.”

This story is so beautiful.  You really have to read it before you see the movie. The author answers very sensibly all of my little question as to why Edward did the things he did and how he interpreted the things she did.  He didn’t think she was not going to be hurt by his actions.  He just thought the ends, living a normal human life, was worth the means, the pain  she would suffer initially.

“I had to let her go to save her!”

Seriously, especially during the chapters leading up to Alice and Bella’s arrival in Volterra, this is Midnight New Moon.

Just finished reading this and it is fan-freakin’-great. I actually stopped in the middle of listening to New Moon on audio to read this — New Moon from Edward’s POV — and I am so glad I did. Just like those 264 pages of Midnight Sun gave me a whole different way of appreciating Twilight, this enhanced my appreciation of New Moon! Please, please, if you can make the time — read this. The author (AMuseFan77) is very, very talented and did a phenom job with this! Can not wait to read more from her!
