Here are a pile of games you can play at your New Moon DVD Release party. I tried to weed out the lame ones, but sometimes silly is good. Let me know if you play any of them, OK?
The Wolf Pack Call
Have you heard Kiowa do his Wolfpack howl at the conventions? Well, in honor of the wolfpack, how about having a howling contest! Who can do it best? Give out prizes for most original, loudest, and oddest howl.
A Mind Reading Game
In the books, Edward can read the minds of those around him. Before the party, create several packs of index cards with simple shapes in each pack - five of each of the following designs: two straight lines that cross in the middle, three wavy parallel lines, a square, a circle, and a five-pointed star.
Shuffle each pack. Turning over one card at a time and focusing on that image, have one person act as the “sender”. On paper, have the other participants note what design they think is being thought of at that moment. After going through all twenty-five cards, the Sender reveals the order of the cards.
Participants who got more than five, twenty percent, correct may have been reading the mind of the Sender.
Tua Cantata
In the world of Twilight sometimes a vampire will have a victim whose blood is particularly appealing to them. The person is called Tua Cantata, their singer because the blood “sings” to them. In this game you will have to rely on the sense of smell. Have an array of scents and fragrances available. First you choose the people who will be blindfolded and those who will have the fragrance applied on them. The challenge is for each blindfolded player to find the person whose scent is the one that is assigned to them. The person who finds their partner first wins.
Forks Yearbook:
You will need paper, pencils, and a timer.
How to Play: Players have one minute to name all the characters, actors, and places in the Twilight Saga that start with any given letter of the alphabet.
Who Wins: The person with the most names listed or with the most unique names listed (derived by crosschecking everyone’s lists) wins.
Twilight Charades:
Divide the group into Team Jacob/Werewolves and Team Edward/Vampires. Evenly. If there’s an odd number, have the person who sits out designate what the others will act out and keep time.
How to Play: Every member of the Jacob/Werewolves Team will impersonate a vampire or human character. It’s up to Team Edward/Vampires to figure out who they are as quick as they can. Afterwards it’s time to switch and the Edward/Vampire Team will impersonate a werewolf or human character (preferably different humans than already depicted) with the Jacob/Werewolf Team guessing.
Who Wins: The team with the shortest time wins!
Alice’s Visions:
(Game Name taken from Twilight Scene-It.) You will need paper and pencils or a chalkboard/dry erase board and chalk/markers.
How to Play: Players will try to stump the group by drawing scenes from the Twilight and New Moon movies. Each drawing is given three minutes. How many turns taken depends entirely on the amount of players participating, if necessary divide group into teams again. For every drawing guessed correctly, the guesser/team will get a point. In team play, if at the end of three minutes the scene is still unknown the team of the drawer will get one minute to guess. If they get it right the team earns two points.
Who Wins: Team with most points.
Eclipse Jeopardy:
If a small party, play as individuals. If a large party divide into teams.
Set up: You will need index cards, pencils, and tape. Come up with 5 questions to fit 6 categories for a total of 30 questions. Put the questions and answers on one side of the index card and the value amount for the question on the other side. Create a board from the index cards by taping them up on a wall or window.
How to Play: A player or team will pick a category and dollar amount. Someone will take the index card down and read the question on the back. A correct response earns the dollar value of the clue. If the response is incorrect, reveal the answer and no points are distributed.
Category ideas include: Individual Actors, Entire Cast, Movies, Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Vampires, Werewolves, Humans, and Stephenie Meyer.
Who Wins: The person or team with most money at the end of the game.
Soundtrack Musical Chairs
Purchase the soundtrack to New Moon and play the traditional game of musical chairs. (Seat guests in a circle. Guests walk behind the chairs while music plays. Take one chair away, and when the music stops, everyone rushes to find a seat. The person left without a chair is out of the game. Play several rounds until only one person is left seated.)
Vampire Bob
Issue every player a set of plastic vampire teeth and have them bob for plastic dog-biscuit-shaped toys wearing the fake teeth. Fill a basin with lukewarm water and place large plastic doggy biscuit chew toys inside the water. Players hold their hands behind their backs and try to bite into the floating plastic toys to remove them from the water. Players take turns until all the chew toys are removed. Make sure toys aren’t so small that they’re a choking hazard.
Motorcycle Race -
Remember how Jacob and Bella bonded while Jacob taught Bella to ride her motorcycle? Set up black butcher paper on the floor to represent a road. (If you have lots of helpers and spare time, glue small yellow strips of construction paper down the center of the blackbutcher paper , to simulate the dashed yellow line down a real road.) Purchase two wind-up toy motorcycles. Have game participants wind up their motorcycles and race against one another. The person whose motorcycle remains on the blackbutcher paper “road” for the greatest distance is declared the winner. Write names on sticky notes to mark a motorcycle’s final crash site.
What can you use for prizes? How about 2 warm cans of soda in a paper bag?
