A woman whose tattoos are a tribute to cult characters she says changed her life is hoping her body art will be a winner on Sunday. Cathy Ward is obsessed with the Twilight vampire books and films – and she couldn’t carry her love much closer to her heart. An adaptation of the poster for the second film, New Moon, is tattooed across her back. Vampire Edward Cullen, played by heartthrob star Robert Pattinson, adorns her ribs. Now work has started on her arms and Mrs Ward, 50, hopes to win a prize at the Reading Tattoo Show at the Rivermead Leisure Centre. Last year she took the top portrait prize at the same event and after a year of additions she hopes the work of tattoo artist Ian, of the No Limits studio in West Reading’s Oxford Road, will catch the judges’ eye again. Mrs Ward, of Waldeck Street in Katesgrove, said she became “hooked” on Twilight at Christmas in 2009 – and now the tattoo work isn’t the only thing that is different about her. She said: “I was 17 stone, then 15½ and now I am 11½. I got hooked on the Twilight books [by Stephenie Meyer] and stopped snacking. I use the music to exercise to and now I am more or less at my target. “I was a size 24 and now I am a 10 to 12. My tatts are my reward to myself.” Mrs Ward, who makes the cream cakes at Morrison’s in Whitley, went to Ian for her first tattoo when she was 18 – but the modest Tudor rose and banners are now covered and the Twilight fan hasn’t finished yet. The work on her back cost thousands of pounds and took 13 sessions, or 27 hours, to complete. The design includes a collage of chess pieces, ribbons and other images representing the four books. Mrs Ward said her “very tolerant” husband Colin has no tattoos – he doesn’t even wear jewellery – but he likes to see her happy and “loves having a sexy wife”. And the big question: Did the tattooing hurt? “It depends where,” Mrs Ward said. “The worst was on the tailbone and I was actually biting the back of the chair.” Still think you are a bigger fan than Cathy? Tell us why and send us pictures. Admin@cullenboysanonymous.com |

The Best I Ever Had by WhatsMyNomDePlume Sex between friends complicates everything. Bella knows this. But she has no idea how much more Edward is going to complicate things. Twilight – Rated: M -Romance/Humor – Words: 58,987 – Reviews: 4906 – Edward & Bella – Complete I’m sitting here, clapping my hands and freaking out about writing this review, because I want it to be perfect. If you read my recommendations, you’ll know that in the past month I’ve talked about that “amazing, brilliant story” whose epilogue I waited for in order to recommend it here as complete. You’ll know how excited I was about it and how much I want to share it with you. Well, this is it. “The Best I Ever Had” by WhatsMyNomDePlume - one of the best stories I’ve read *I swear on my fic heart* Where do I even begin to express my love for TBIEH? It is a sweet, funny, romantic story which will make you smile and by the end of it you’ll wish it never ended. Bella is so real and believable – a little insecure, fun, concerned about her friendship with Edward, while trying to figure out her feelings for him. She doesn’t like waking up early and really likes doughnuts. It’s so easy to identify yourself with her, to feel like she’s someone you know, if not yourself. Then there’s Edward. Oh Edward. I can’t tell you how much I love him. With the hundres of stories I’ve read, thousands of words, Edwards ranging from sweet/innocent/fragile to abusive/dominant/rude/damaged THIS is my favourite. No, seriously. TBIEH’s Edward is the one I’d pick if I was given the chance to have one fic Edward be real and mine. I also love the banter between Edward and Bella, their quick, fun responses, their whole dynamic, the way he tries to convince her that they’re right together, the way she denies it only to realise that this is what she wants. The way they both care about each other, to a level that surprises them and in Bella’s case takes a while to get used to, is adorable. As usual, Edward is the typical guy but then he’s the most unique, sweet man. This story will give you butterflies, it’ll make you happy, it may make you cry a little bit and it’ll definitely be one of the best you’ve ever read. If not, hunt me down and I’ll apologise for getting you so excited. I just don’t think that’ll be the case though. You’ll read it and it’ll seem like writing is the easiest thing WhatsMyNomDePlume’s ever done in her life. She’s just amazing like that Finally, just in case I haven’t convinced you, here’s my favourite line from the story and perhaps one of my all-time-fic-favourites:
Enjoy and until next Monday! |

Well ladies and gents, tonight was the night that so many of us had been waiting for. It was the annual MTV Movie Awards, which in the past years has become a way for Twihards to get a peek at exclusive clips, the cast, and watch as our faves take home tons of awards each year. This year was no different, except for there were plenty of hilarious moments that created hysteria just like the show is known to do. Out of Rob, Kristen, and Taylor, the main focus of tonight’s show was definitely Robert Pattinson because he not only took home awards, but presented one to Reese Witherspoon. His ad lib speech had tons of people laughing, but also some up in arms about his use of the f-bomb during the speech. Now I am not a huge fan of the word, but I was taken back more by the reaction it got from some of the fandom. Apparently, it was a love or hate situation, which is usually the case when it comes to humor. I found Rob’s speech pretty funny with just a touch of awkwardness. In other words, I thought it was a Rob type of speech. However, some seem to find the words offensive or inappropriate, which baffles me and I will explain why. First of all, this is the MTV Movie Awards, not the Academy Awards or a prestigious event of that nature. Presenters and hosts curse on a regular basis, they roast celebs, show over the top footage, and pull all types of antics…..this is the show where Eminem got a butt shoved in his face and Sandra Bullock made out with ScarJo during her acceptance speech. Maybe that is why I am confused by the gasping over Rob using a word that was used throughout the night and one that Peter Facinelli said constantly a few years back during the Best Movie acceptance speech. Another reason I did not find it inappropriate was because he was teasing Reese and she teased him right back. Ever since they started promoting Water for Elephants, the costars have been going back and forth about their awkward Vanity Fair days and even been asked by reporters what it was like to go from being mother and son to lovers. Reese even got onstage and told a joke to Rob by dropping some profanity of her own, which for me made it even funnier. The two of them have such a witty banter in interviews and she teases him just as much so I thought it was fitting that he roasted her. I know some people have this image of Rob in their mind and I suppose it ruined their fantasy by him actually playing along with the outrageous theme of the show, but it just made me love him even more. He told some jokes, he was awkward, he got some laughs, laughed at himself, and managed to do it all with a smile. He even brought Taylor into the mix by kissing him instead of Kristen! If anything, it made me think that Rob was actually having fun and rolling with the punches on a show that is full of them. I thought it was a great indicator of his sense of humor and it really made me wish he would do SNL even more now. Maybe I am alone in my view, but I actually thought Rob stole the show. It was the MTV Movie Awards which is always full of cursing, over the top antics, same sex kisses, outrageous moments, and plenty of laughs. I knew exactly the type of award show it was even before I tuned in tonight and it always has been. I took it for the laid back environment that it was and it seemed like Rob did the same, so what do you ladies think? Were you offended by Rob’s speech? Did you think it was funny or were you indifferent about the whole thing? Let us know in the comment section! Also, what were your thoughts about the Breaking Dawn trailer and the show as a whole? *This is an editorial and the views expressed are mine, not necessarily the views of other CBA members. |
