Reelz Channel Twi-Con Reporter Auditions
5.27.09
Everyone has a niche for something, I know what mine is and I got to live part of the experience today. At around 3:30pm I arrived at 10 Columbus Circle in New York City. My Vampire Vixen pal Margaret and I headed into the Borders Book Store. Once inside we received bracelets with numbers, numbers that could very possibly lead to the chance of a life time. My number was 31, my parking space at the train station was my lucky number, 13. I flipped 31 around and it’s 13, how ironic.
Continuing on, we grabbed an application form and lined up behind a few book cases, in the book isle with Twilight. The application required us to provide our favorite books, what team we were on, and the reasoning of why they should choose us. As us Twilight fans quickly and diligently filled out our applications, the folks at Reelz channel filmed every waking second. Behind me a sweet Twi-fan named Brianna stood nervously, awaiting her turn. We all listened as they explained to us what was to happen next, we would all be given the opportunity to stand in front of the camera. One by one, seat by seat, the Twi-fans moved forward. Once we got the chairs it was almost like a game of musical chairs, without the music. There were two seats in front of us on a stage, and once you got up there it was almost your turn to sparkle.
Brianna, Margaret, Twilight tattoo girl from Philly, and I nervously awaited our turn. We watched as several other girls nervously stand in front of the camera. They wanted to find out from us what we were all about. Mostly every girl was on Team Edward. From the time I was there two gentleman tried out as well, it was nice to see some Twi-guys in the crowd.
We got up to the last few seats before the stage, as we did each of us wished one another the best of luck. Margaret was the first of us to go, standing up there in her beautiful red dress as she caught the attention of the man behind the camera. Then I took a deep breath and somehow felt calm and at ease in front of the camera. Out of pretty much all of the fans auditioning today I was the only team Jacob member present. I let them know my reasoning for my choosing of Jacob, he was the one to put Bella back together again. I was only asked a few more questions before the lady smiled graciously at me and said “thank you.â€
I had thought this was an audition for adults, apparently Reelz channel thought that to be a reporter you had to tell them what side you were on, Jacob or Edward. They also asked about what we would wear to the costume ball if we were chosen. I was a little disappointed in how they interviewed us. I felt like just asking us questions about the book did not show off our reporting skills. I also got the vibe that the lady asking us questions was in a rushed mood. The fans before my group had been asked trivia questions. I noticed that as more and more people came, she stopped asking trivia and rushed us through our questions. Before I had the opportunity to go up the lady kept telling us to be enthusiastic, many of the fans seemed nervous and didn’t smile nor did they seem excited. I had expected there to be more excitement flowing through the crowd. I still noticed a lot of fans who definitely had the knack for it. I was only there for two hours, but it seemed like much longer. I had a blast talking with a few Twilighters, and the experience was amazing.
For those of you who didn’t get a chance to audition for this opportunity, on June 26th 2009 on Reelz channel you can check out the finalists. Once they post the finalists you will be able to vote on which fan you think should go to Twi-Con 2009. For everyone who did get the chance today, good luck and may the best Twi-hard win.
