In a new interview with representatives from four Twilight fan websites, Stephenie Meyer gives us some info on her plans for Midnight Sun!!! From what I get, it looks like the book it’s going to happen! In a long time, but it will! Please everyone, pray with me!!!

Meghan: What we’ll do is just start here, you’ll do one question and keep going around…

Letters to Twilight: No pressure!

(Laughing)

Meghan: So alright, go for it!

Stephenie: Wait! Wait, wait, wait! Do you all have your tape recorders on?

All: (Nodding and saying yes!)

Stephenie: First question, because we are going to deal with this right now, is Midnight Sun! Right? So we don’t have to…

All: (Lot’s of blabbering…)

Stephenie: I know that’s what everyone cares about.  I also know that the right answer would be for me to say “Oh yah, it’s done! And it’ll be out next month!”  But that’s not true.  It’s also not true that I’ve got a ton of work done on it, and that’s what I’m working on.  What’s true is that I’m really burned out on vampires.  And, I don’t want to write it badly.  So I want to wait until I’m excited about the material again, and I’m excited about Edward, and that it’s something that’s motivating.  You know, when a story is keeping me up at night, and I’m waking up at 4 am in the morning and thinking ‘Yes! That is what is what should happen in this moment!’  Then that is when I can write with happiness! So, right now it feels like homework… it really does.  And when things feel like homework they go very, very slowly for me.  So it’s still not a “It’s not gonna happen!” I want to do it when I can do it right.  You know, I have my share of human stubbornness, and I have to tell you, it’s a little bit hard when people are like “This is the only thing you can do, and it’s the only thing we care about!”  And, you’re kind of like a three year old, you want to be like “I’m gonna do what I wanna do!” Yah.  “You’re not the boss of me!”  So my mom has backed off a little bit.  Actually, I was at The Fray concert, and I was hanging out with the guys backstage.  They’re really cool, and I was talking to Isaac about it.  He was like, “I really want you to do that!”  And I was like “Oh my gosh!  Come on!”  You know I can’t get away from it anywhere.  And, we talked about stubbornness and reverse psychology.  I have this great thing he signed for me, it says “To Stephenie, Don’t work on that stupid book! Nobody wants it anyway!”  I have it by my computer.  That really is the right direction to go with me, because I’m like “Huh!  Maybe I should do it!  I’ll show you!”   Psychology!  Anyway, that’s Midnight Sun!  so, that should disappoint everyone!

TwilightSeriesTheories: I don’t think so!

Stephenie: Ok!  so now we’re done!  (Laughing) So, I’ll see you guys later!

All: (Laughing)

LetterstoTwilight: That’s totally understandable.

Letters to Twilight: You haven’t!

Stephenie: The people I worry about are the haters. You know, that like to talk about what a horrible writer I am and all that stuff.  When I do write it they’re going to say “Oh, this was worse than the first half because now she did it badly!”  No matter what I do it’s going to be that way.  There’s a mental block there.  You know what people are going to say, so I have wait until it’s just me and the book again.  Then I can feel excited about it!  You know, sometimes I’ll sit and think about the car chase, that we don’t get to see from Bella’s perspective.  I have that one completely mapped out in my head.  That one wouldn’t be hard to get down. Stuff like that, it gets exciting. Cars.  Ya know!  The first car he steals I have picked out, and then the second one.  It get’s messy!  It’s gonna be great!  You have to get excited about things!  But, that’s Midnight Sun!

she basically said the same thing she’s always said ” that she doesn’t want to do it right NOW.”

First, she felt violated and refused to write it because it got leaked, then it was writer’s block, and now she is just burnt out and it feels like homework. Sorry to burst her bubble but no matter if or when she writes it, there will be critics. That is just part of being a writer. There will always be people who dont like your style or even your story. She has to get over that if she wants to make MS because it isnt just about MS. It is about her writing style and she isnt going to change that so she should probably just do what most writers do and accept that not everyone will love you so focus on the people that do. She isnt making anymore fans with her logic behind it. That is like Stephen King saying you know what, I dont like horror or thrillers anymore so I am not going to write what made me a famous writer, everyone should be okay with that though. Come on SM, that isnt realistic. It just leads me to believe what I have ever since Eclipse, she is tired of Edward and has fallen so much in love with Jacob that she cant write from Edward’s POV. She lost her passion and that is what really sucks. She can use the whole, I will write when I want about what I want thing as much as she wants, but part of being a writer is having some type of demand on you just like in any successful job.

Rachelle, I soo agree with you. What gets me is that she says she’s tired and burnt out on vampires yet she wrote Bree’s story. That’s what has ticked me off more than anything, fine be burnt out on vampires, but don’t go and release a book about a vampire that no one really cares about and then turn around again and say I’m burnt out on writing about vampires. I think she got what she wanted out of writing the books, she got her money and her fame and now she wants to write other things and I’m sure she is hoping that the fandom dies down, but it’s not going to, look at how many people are still gaga over Star Trek, or Star Wars or any of Stephen Kings’ books, it isn’t something that just goes away b/c the books are done and the movies are done. This is something that is special to all of us, just like those other fandoms are to those people who put all their time and money and obsession into. She honestly needs to grow up as ONE an adult b/c she is acting very much like a child, and 2 as an author.

I agree with you Shannon. We talked about this in another post, but SM’s success was pretty much a fluke….a phenomenal fluke, but a fluke nonetheless. She didnt sit down and say hey I want to be a writer and I am going to share these books with the world because it is my passion. She had a good dream, wrote it down, and that is why we have Twilight. A writer has to be passionate about actually writing or this is what happens. It takes a lot of dedication, it isnt easy, and she sort of fell into it at a great time so it came easier to her. I can see why so many writers roll their eyes at her like get over yourself. Twihards were all over Stephen King for voicing his opinion but was it really far fetched? You have hundreds of thousands of passionate writers out there who understand it comes with a price like everything and that there will be critics but when you are truly passionate, you dont give a damn that some people dont like it, who cares, focus on the people who support you. All this shows is that she isnt in the right mindset and is giving off a very negative vibe like I know people want it but I dont care.

I am not really into the whole fans are entitled thing but I do think that after all this fandom has become, all the money she has made from it, she could at least finish what she started or make it look like she is at least trying to get back into the writing seat.

I too was upset when she started promoting Bree’s story. It was a good way for her to make some money at an opportune time before Eclipse premiered but seriously all that time could have been spent finishing MS. I write, I know how difficult it can be but the woman isnt starting from scratch. Twilight has already been written! She isnt creating these new characters and plot, all she has to do is go from Edward’s POV and there are so many writers out there that would feel blessed for the opportunity she has been given. I could see how some would find it infuriating with how she is handling it. I love the books, but am not a SM fan. It is insane to think of all the amazing fanfics out there that have been written along the same lines…from Edward’s POV and yet she cant even finish the book. I guess fanfiction is all we will have for a while. I will say this though, if it were a Jacob book, I bet she would have already published it years ago.

SM, we love your book, not because you are the best writer of English language in the world, but because you came up with these wonderful characters that we can’t live without.

Please take your time. I understand the inspiration thing. It has to happen, and not feel like a homework, because it’s an art. I’m happy as long as it’s gonna be here some day.

Okay so….first I have to say…car chase? I am sound stupid but WHAT THE…?! I don’t remember any car chase in Twilight!

Anywho, anyhow……..don’t know if this encourages me or not. She didn’t specifically say she is going to finish it and when, and she didn’t say she wasn’t. So, we are still where we were yesterday..in limbo! Which to me….is not really anywhere guys. Personally, I think SM is being bratty and spoiled. Just finish the DAMN book already!!! She knows, at this point, that’s ALL anyone wants to see. Does she not realize how much more $$$ she’d make if she finished MS?! Why doesn’t she understand that!?

Oh….and did you all catch where she said”When I get excited about Edward again…” Ah ha!!!! We knew it, she doesn’t love him anymore! Our theory is proven….it’s straight from the horses mouth ya’ll!! It’s really very sad to me, she doesn’t love Edward. I swear, if that woman writes a dman book about her beloved Jacob before she finishes MS……I’m mounting a posse to go and kick her a$#!!!!

Thats what made me laugh, people were so excited for this interview and yet….nothing. It is the same thing and if anything it shows us that she isnt excited about Edward so it doesnt help our case, more like hurts it if anything.

The whole I’ll finish it when I want thing kind of irks me. Okay SM then we’ll support your stuff when we want. She is just rolling in her money right now and I guess when you look at it that way when you lack passion you dont have a reason to write.

Rachelle that is so true. Why should she write?! She really probably doesn’t have to write another thing for the rest of her life as she’s probably set as far as $$ is concerned. Nevermind that she wouldn’t have a dime if it weren’t for her fans!!!!

I’m with you….I LOVE the series, the movies, etc….BUT I’m NOT a fan of SM, don’t like her attitude, and don’t like her nonchalance and her throwiing Edward to side the way she has. I just don’t get it.

Oh, and you and Shannon were so right about her and the crtiics……not everyone, everywhere is going to be a lover of all that you do! Honey, that’s life. So, I say to SM, “Suck it up buttercup!” and move on b/c there will ALWAYS be haters.

Not done…the reason she should write, her passion should be the fans. Giving us what we WANT as she would have nothing without us. Imagine, if not one person had ever read her book…where would she be? Like someone said here, if she’s waiting fo the hype to die down to finish MS……well, then I guess it’s never getting completed b/c I don’t think Twilight fans are going anywhere for a long time.

Her attitude isnt winning any fans. I honestly think that SM would be just fine never writing another book for Twilight again, maybe not one in general. We all know what made her successful and it wasnt the Host or anything else she wrote besides Twilight. The Host got exposure BECAUSE of Twilight so she is pretty much biting the hand that feeds her but I dont think she is hungry anymore. She has millions of dollars and there are still two films left to shoot. She has become complacent and that is truly a letdown for her fans.

OME, I am so glad you said about the car chase Stacie. I sat here thinking “What car chase? What is wrong with me that I can’t remember that?”

I guess toward the end of the interview I just started blocking things out and going to my happy place but yea what the french toast is she talking about? I know she left tons of loose strings but how in the hell did I miss out on a whole car chase! I am starting to question her sanity and if she has a different book that she wrote but didnt publish…hmmmmm.

I’m tired of her lame excuses, I’m jsut not buying that I lost Edward’s voice nonsense.

Lazy? She wrote a book in three months. Do you know how difficult that is? She wrote more than four books within, what, less than six years?

And the car chase is in Midnight Sun. Duh.

Whoa Anon, you need to chill out. Sorry, I wasn’t the only one who didn’t realize where this car chase was! Figured it had something to do w/ Edward being gone. You were a little harsh w/ your words…..that’s not what we are about here @ CBA. Just saying…….a kind and gentle reminder of this car chase would’ve been perferable. No need to chastize.
