Hopefully you have all heard by now about the Spencer Bell Legacy Concert in Dallas on April 24th and that Jackson Rathbone’s 100 Monkeys are a big part of the effort. We talked to the band about it in our interview in Tucson when they were on tour here. (If you didn’t see this crazy interview, you have to watch it!) Well, do you also recall there was going to be an auction for some really cool things? Here are the three items/experiences up for auction, all of which include getting to meet Jackson!
The auction started Monday, Feb 22, @ 10am EST and ends March 5th @ 10pm. Here is the link: In addition to the auctions, there are raffles and several contests to enter.
You can learn more about Spencer and his legacy at the Spencer Bell Memorial site. The money raised at the event will go to The Spencer Bell Memorial Fund @ the University of Michigan’s Adrenal Cancer Clinic. Spencer Bell was a friend to several of the band members, including Jackson, who died of adrenal cancer in 2006 at the age of 20. This is a great charity and Jackson and the band are a great people, so lets give them a lot support in making this a success. |

(This is an older video but it gives you some background…) The 100 Monkeys and Jackson Rathbone work hard to help the Spencer Bell Legacy Project and the ASCC raise money to fight adrenal cancer. As we have reported, on April 24th, they will be playing at the Spencer Bell Legacy Concert in Dallas along with Drew and the Medicinal Pen, The Stevedores, Evro, The Kissing Club, and tenatively Tin Tin Can.

Here’s our highly entertaining interview with the 100 Monkeys, Ben Graupner, Ben Johnson, Jackson Rathbone, Jerad Anderson, and Uncle Larry, who were in Tucson on December 30, 2009. The first thing the guys did was grab a fake mustache and declare it the microphone. Ben Johnson gave some details about the Spencer Bell Memorial Concert in April in Dallas. Jackson and the band explain their delayed arrival in Phoenix (Time change.). They joke about how it feels to have people pretend to be them, and about them pretending to be other people. (Those Twilighters in line outside the elderly housing high-rise in LA for the NM premier, it WAS Jackson we saw!) Pretty fun stuff. Many, many thanks to the band and their manager for talking to us and for generally being such great guys! |

I arrived at Martini Ranch, with a girlfriend of mine, around 6:15 P.M. The doors werene’t open yet, and we were about the 6th ones in line. As we were waiting, we saw two Volvo C30’s drive by (Coincidence?) and we even got a honk from the 100 Monkeys, themselves, as they drove by. The doors opened a little bit late, but not nearly as late as the afternoon performance. When we got into the club, we still had to wait quite a bit before the opening band, Random Karma, began playing. After their set and another twenty minutes of waiting, 100 Monkeys came on stage. They opened with a song appropriately titled “Arizona“, which we all loved. You’ll have to forgive me for not knowing all of their song titles, but I can tell you that they put on one one of the most amazing live shows I’ve ever seen. Also, each and every band member seems truly grateful and appreciative that we all took time out of lives to see them. Several times during the show, girls from the audience would yell out “Jerad, I love you!” To which, Jackson cleverly replied, “There’s enough Jerad to go around ladies. Oops, he’s married.” At one point during their show, they asked the audience to suggest an idea for a song. They said they always like to improvise songs. The one they chose, came from a friend of mine. Her suggestion was “Hyper-Color shirts from the eighties.” Lo and behold, Jackson and the boys worked it out and came up with a pretty awesome song about them. My personal favorite moment of the night came when during a unusual quiet moment, I yelled out “I love you, Jackson!” and he replied with “I love you, too.” I was totally fangirling! They closed their show with “Wasteland 2“, and then upon request from the crowd, performed “Keep Awake.” All in all, I had an awesome time and would definitely see 100 Monkeys again, and highly recommend seeing them if you ever get the chance. On a side note, i just wanted to remark on something that I certainly saw a lot of last night. Obviously, we are all fans, either of Jackson, 100 Monkeys, or The Twilight Saga. I think we should all show a little more respect toward one another. We are all there for the same reasons, and some rarely get the opportunity to get this close to the cast, so I think we should stop being so catty toward one another and trying to compete, and unite in our love and respect for these people. |
