Christina Ricci Warns: Prepare Yourself for Robert Pattinson the Cad

Pattinsonthecad Christina Ricci Warns: Prepare Yourself for Robert Pattinson the Cad

Moviegoers are used to seeing Robert Pattinson onscreen as the most-stand up vampire around. But Christina Ricci warns that’s going to end very soon.

Pattinson and Ricci both completed  “Bel Ami” which Pattinson plays a young man rising to power in Paris using the city’s most influential and wealthy women.

“The world is used to seeing him one way, and he’s very, very different in this movie,” Ricci tells PopcornBiz from the Blackberry Torch from AT&T launch party, “But he’s an actor, that’s what it’s about. And he’s really great in this.”

Pattinson, who somehow has managed to stay a faithful and sexless through three “Twilight” films, works his way through Parisian society in “Bel Ami.” At the press conference during the “Eclipse” release, Pattinson gleefully talked about his “Bel Ami” character Georges Duroy who he called “a completely amoral, evil character.”

“He seduces his wife and seduces absolutely every single one of his wife’s friends. Any influential woman he can get he has an affair with,” said Pattison. “And then ends up screwing over the entire society and ends up making millions and millions of francs.”

Pattinson taps into some serious actresses in Ricci and Uma Thurman. His Duroy is such a cad that he not only dumps Ricci once, but several times as he rises to the top.

“We have an on-off relationship through the whole movie and I get my heart broken a few times,” says Ricci.

And does she handle her onscreen heartbreaks with less drama than Pattinson’s co-star Kristen Stewart who famously went through vampire withdrawal during “New Moon” in a big way?

“Yes, I do,” she admits. “But there’s a little screaming, but that’s par for the course for a relationship.”

While filming is complete, no official release date has not been set for “Bel Ami,” – though it looks to hit US screens in the spring of next year.

Folks who prefer the nice Rob won’t have to wait long. Pattinson will be back to his filming his faithful vampire character, Edward Cullen, in the fall for the final two “Twilight” installments.

Robert Pattinson: ‘In my next film, I screw over women… Edward wouldn’t approve’

By: Lauren Williams

He plays the vampire every girl wants to be bitten by – so it was our duty (and a hard one at that) to grill the 24-year-old over whether he’s anything like the gorgeous Edward Cullen, being mobbed, and believing in fate…

COS, Interviews, Rob, Kristen, Taylor

Robert Pattinson appears a little befuddled. The Twilight heart-throb has come straight from a night-shoot on the movie he’s filming, Water For Elephants, into our interview. In real life, Rob couldn’t be further removed from the character he plays in the Twilight saga, Edward Cullen. He’s warm, funny, and, in sharp contrast to Edward, very relaxed. There are no pouts and fiery-eyed stares from Pattinson. He and co-star Kristen Stewart will not discuss their off-screen relationship, despite ’jokingly’ stealing a kiss on stage at the MTV Movie Awards in June, but he’s happy to talk about anything else, from the serious to the trivial. Clearly, he was not built for superstardom – he finds the interview process awkward – but he’s loosened up since his early pre-Twilight interviews and luckily he’s not cursed with an A-lister’s ego. Dressed in jeans and white shirt, his famously wild hair neatly cropped, he settles down for a natter about life…

Have your mates ever called you Edward by mistake?
People have called me Edward – not family, that would be weird! My mates might have done it to rib me. They don’t really know about Twilight, but some of them found out about this R-Pattz thing, so now one of them always calls me R-Pattz, which he thinks is hilarious.

Edward can read thoughts. If we could hear your thoughts, what would they sound like?
Complete silence, dust blowing in the wind. Or maybe just like white noise…

What aspects of Edward do you most identify with?
It’s changed a bit in this film. In the first two, I guess there was his feeling that you can’t relate to anyone, or no one can relate to you. I was like, ’I never want to talk to anyone’. I used to feel like that when I was younger. I’ve grown up now.

Are you a traditionalist, like Edward?
It is quite pronounced in the movie, and I respect that, but when I work on other films, I want to play really amoral characters. I don’t feel like I have to stand by his values, but I respect them. I guess courtship is a good thing, but only if it’s pleasurable. Some people meet each other in a bar and sleep with each other that night, then stay with each other for the rest of their lives. Or they could stay with each other and never get married. It just doesn’t make any difference.

You definitely play an amoral character in your next film, Bel Ami.
Yes. There’s something fun about Bel Ami, going from Edward to some guy who pretty much abuses women to get money out of them. Edward so wouldn’t approve – and I thought that was a funny irony. In Bel Ami all the women my character screws over are all attracted to him to begin with, so he starts having affairs with them and destroys their lives.

You are much less intense than Edward, clearly…
I don’t know, I guess in a lot of ways. I think the main thing is he’s very extreme in his way of thinking, and I’m not like that. I don’t think in such absolutes, like ’I can’t be with this girlfriend, I’m going to kill myself!’ It’s quite a teenage thing.

Lots of old quotes in this interview with Jetset (France) but a few new ones too

I must confess. I didn’t like Robert Pattinson. And today I wish I had stood back. When Twilight was released and we saw that 10,000 people were camping in front of the movie theater of Los Angeles where the premiere was taking place , our first reaction as journalist was : “But why are they enjoying this saga ?”

When Pattinson had arrived a few hours later , he was so overwhelmed that he quickly disappeared. Just a few words to the media . We had thus concluded that this guy was big headed . It was a huge mistake. In fact , Pattinson is a real shy guy . Moreover , he is English , so he is a phlegmatic shy person. And when we chatted with him , for the release of Eclipse , I realized that he didn’t expect such a phenomenon that night at the Twilight premiere . Robert Pattinson is only 24 and nowadays , he is the most desired bachelor of the world. . And trust me , he still can’t cope with his fame . So he stays at home , never goes out at night and when he’s not playing this 107 years old virgin vampire, he chooses interesting roles in interesting films . But let’s focus today on Eclipse because it’s been released all around the world , I hope you will forgive me for this easy play on words . Here is “Interview with a vampire”

R.M. : Since you’re English, you must have followed the FIFA world cup . Why do you think this event is so important in the world?
R.P. : The english team is always a good one , we always have the best players and no one is supposed to play better than us , but everytime , it’s not enough to win
I don’t know why football is so important and why it gathers so many people. Maybe because it’s easy to understand this sport . The more a sport attracts people ; the more popular it’ll be , that’s why I never understood why football isn’t so popular in the USA . It’s incredible to see such a huge and rich country unable to have a good football team . I must say they improve and thay have a great football team now.

R.M. : You’re only 24 and you’re on the spotlights , is it difficult not to make mistakes?
R.P. : Yes , it’s always frustrating and people always expect me to do some mistakes to pounce on me. But I like being imperfect. We can’t always look perfect and sell such an image. It’s impossible. Anyway, I never tried to do so , it’d be dangerous . And I’ve always made a million mistakes (laughs…)

R.M. : and if you did a film which happens to be a failure ?
R.P. : as long as I’m making a film for good reasons , and not money ‚it’ll be OK . If I decide to do a film just for money , there’ll be problems. Nothing can be good if you do it for money or for fame . If we choose to do a film because we think it’s a good story, then even if it’s a failure, I don’t mind. I’ve never been attracted by money or fame . My desires are quite limited, so I guess it’ll be OK!

Will You Watch Bel Ami to See Rob Pattinson’s Behind?

Three words: Robert Pattinson naked. No, Team Edward, we didn’t invade your dreams again (dirty!), that’s just the “Eclipse” star talking to MTV News this weekend about the period drama he filmed earlier this year with Uma Thurman and Kristin Scott Thomas, “Bel Ami.”

The movie, which is based on an 1885 novel by French author Guy de Maupassant, will feature plenty of nudity from Rob as he plays what MTV News’ Josh Wigler describes as “a morally ambiguous journalist who gradually rises from rags to riches among the Paris elite thanks to his various connections to powerful and wealthy mistresses.”

You know what that means — lots of naked time between the sheets. “I think there’s a lot of my crack in it,” he told MTV News, though said he said he hasn’t seen a final cut of the movie yet. “I think there’s quite a bit of nudity.”

While we all pause to imagine what could be (Do we really want to see Rob naked? Yes. The answer is probably yes), let’s let Rob tell us a little more about the film. “It was such a strange story,” he said. “I think it will turn out to be very interesting, but I have no idea about any of it yet.”

What are your thoughts on a clothing-less Robert Pattinson? Will you see “Bel Ami?”

The BBC Weighs in-Was Bel Ami a Smart Move for Pattinson?

The BBC Weighs in Was Bel Ami a Smart Move for Pattinson?

Do you agree, is Rob Pattinson making better career moves than Taylor Lautner? Here is a view from James King of the BBC Radio:

It’s certainly a good move for him to make. I remember reading the book of Bel Ami in my French classes at school and Rob’s character, the fame hungry Georges Dulroy, is a million miles away from icy Edward Cullen. This is the story of a social climber, a Parisian nobody who works his way up the financial ladder by being the arm-candy of frustrated housewives. It’s a great role.

And, of course, it’s a role that he needs to be a success to get away from that relentless curse of the franchise star – type-casting. As Zac Efron attempts the same thing – turning down the teen-tastic Footloose in favour of moody drama Charlie St Cloud – both guys face a battle with the media over whether they can be seen outside of their blockbuster bubble. Both, I reckon, have the talent to pull it off.

More importantly, they’ve also got the looks. Whilst Star Wars leading man Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) struggled to find other hit movies it was his decidedly sexier co-star Harrison Ford that hit the big time. Ditto Eilijah Wood and Viggo Mortensen from Lord Of The Rings. The jury’s still out on exactly who will break out of the shadow of Harry Potter although maybe R Pattz, as the former Cedric Diggory, has already claimed that prize. With upcoming movies co-starring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz (Unbound
Captives) and Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz (Water For Elephants) he’s certainly got the cream of Hollywood on his side, with those projects reeking of awards potential.

Even if they do what Rob’s recent pic Remember Me did – ie. disappear without a trace – then I still think that the guy’s got the talent (and cheekbones) to do a Johnny Depp and, aged 40, find himself the toast of mainstream Hollywood with a wayout role in some Disney blockbuster. Don’t forget, Depp’s movies were generally only cult hits until Jack Sparrow came along.

So have another look at the Bel Ami pics and remember this moment. Come 2030, that guy you’re looking at now could be starring as a rum-swigging Jack Jnr in Pirates Of The Caribbean 12. Arguably a better career move than Taylor Lautner, recently signed up for Stretch Armstrong, a movie based on a plastic toy. Savvy?
