After his breakout turn as a muscle-bound shape-shifter in “New Moon,” Taylor Lautner has become a go-to Hollywood action star, landing roles in the thriller “Abduction,” the superhero flick “Stretch Armstrong” and, possibly, the martial arts-heavy “Cancun.” There had also been a rumor the 18-year-old was approached for a role in “X-Men: First Class,” Marvel’s adaptation of the comic series that follows the young mutants as they enroll in Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. Turns out that rumor was actually true, as producer Bryan Singer revealed over the weekend. “I wanted Taylor to do it, I really did,” he told Blastr.com. “He’s doing a movie in Pittsburgh called ‘Abduction’ and then he’s got the next ‘Twilight’ movie. We talked about it a lot, he is a friend, and I really wanted to make it work. It just doesn’t look like it’s possible to do it.” Singer went on to confirm several castmembers in the movie, which is to be directed by Matthew Vaughn (”Kick-Ass”) and will hit theaters on June 3, 2011. “Kevin Bacon I do believe is going to happen,” Singer said of the actor who will likely become the central villain. “James McAvoy is definitely cast as a young Charles Xavier, Mike Fassbender is in the movie, Nick Hoult, those are for sure,” Singer added. As for Lautner, though, he won’t be joining up with the mutant superheroes at all, which is seemingly fine by Hugh Jackman, who played Wolverine in the previous “X-Men” films. Asked recently if Lautner could play a young Wolverine, Jackson said, “My only question is, can he grow mutton chops? … Actually, I think people would probably prefer him as a hairless Wolverine than a rather hairy-chested version. Certainly about a billion young girls would.”

Wow coming on CBA and seeing Tay Tay’s picture plastered on the first post freaked me out for a moment. I miss all the Cullen Boys stuff that is usually on here but I guess with Eclipse hype fizzling out there isnt much to cover As for Tay Tay being Wolverine, I think it is a blessing in disguise that he was too busy to get the role. Twihards are hardcore but X-Men fans especially fans of the comic books are die hards and I dont think they would have taken kindly to Tay Tay depicting one of their favorite mutants. He has great abs but everything else doesnt really compare. I saw some comments about it on one site and was like whoa! Glad he missed out on that one because the hate mail would have been ridiculous! He appeals to teenage girls very well but I dont think teenage boys and grown men would be as affected by him shirtless. I hope his Abduction movie goes well. It would be nice to see Taylor as an actor and not just a piece of meat even tho I am sure he takes off his shirt plenty of times to get the girls in the seats for the movie. Maybe he will breakout of that mold tho like Zac Efron is trying to do. |

I agree – the Xmen fans would have fliiped….esp regarding Wolverine….. I can’t even understand why he was considered…..physically, he looks nothing like Wolverine…. |

Jean, when I first read that I was like….am I being punked! I dont care if the boy played Jacob Black. I dont even think he looks much like book Jacob let alone Wolverine! So glad he didnt go down that path! |

“have taken kindly to Tay Tay depicting one of their favorite mutants”…hahaha oh Rachelle, you’ll be the death of me so i thought that line was funny.. As soon as i saw Taylor is face i checked again to see if it was the right site lol..but yeah i was also thinking that after Eclipse news will really die down since we have what 18 months till BD (ouch it hurts to say that)…and i am goin to see Eclipse this weekend im prob. the only twihard left who hasnt seen it but its all good lol… Anyway, yeah i agree the X-Men diehards wont be too happy about it..especially since most of them im guessing despise twilight… P.S. things have been slow areound here..miss everyone |

Things have slowed drastically. I checked the site too to make sure I was on CBA. I am sure the x men ppl are jumping for joy that he wasnt chosen. |

Whoa…I somehow missed the fact that Tay Tay was up for the Wolverine role…..HOW ridiculous was that even to consider?! No way would have been right for that. Hmmm..let’s see, Hugh Jackman..Tay Tay…Hugh, Taylor? NOT even CLOSE ppl!!! What was the director thinking?! Yeah, I agree w/ you guys Rachelle and Trish…I miss everyone too and our pgs and pgs long discussions. |
