twilight prom Twilight Once A Fan, Always A Fan?

The Deabolt has a really interesting article discussing the Twilight franchise. The article brings up points from both sides of the fence as well as asking if the hype may hinder it in the end.

Given the popularity of the Stephenie Meyer penned Twilight Saga novels and the subsequent movie adaptations written by screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, which include Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse, lately we’ve been asking ourselves if all of the Twilight buzz will soon begin to cave in on itself, as the vampire genre continues to be cannibalized and ravaged by the second. Really, it’s not a Twilight question of “if”, it’s a matter of “when” the word vampire will evoke rolled eyed “not again” responses as each week Twilight Saga hammers of toys, make-up, Twilight cruises, Twilight location tours, New Moon actor rumors, and the thousands of Twilight Saga stories are nailing the coffin shut on the vampire genre. Life is cyclical and all things popular in life rise and fall, sometimes to be resurrected every few years like what we see of the current popularity of Twilight.

Hey, I love The Twilight Saga as much as any fan and I certainly can’t wait to see New Moon, especially after writing about it for so long. But as much as I love Twilight and can’t wait for New Moon, I do know that too much hype, focus, and Twilight overexposure may hurt the franchise, and will likely bring a much quicker end to the vampire popularity than some expect. For the media it’s short term gain and onto the next Twilight, which was formerly Britney and Anna Nicole. And with all of the other competing vampire related movies and TV shows jumping into the New Moon fray to ride the Twilight wave, not to mention all of the media stories about Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Peter Facinelli, the many Twilight Saga business endeavors, merchandising, you name it – Twilight Saga make-up, Twilight Saga Barbie Dolls, New Moon Calendars, Twilight tours, T-shirts, and many more to come – Twilight and New Moon fans need to enjoy it all now while the Twilight Saga going is good.

They also write:

I found something unique that caught my Twilight eye on a site called Perpetual Post where two writers of the site pose the question, “Love or Hate Twilight?” And given how we’ve been seeing other wild Twilight related opinion about how New Moon is (as dubbed by one) the most secretive movie of all time (not quite), exploring the Twilight media Saga through the lens of people who think Twilight is hurting the vampire genre is an interesting trip. Is Twilight having an adverse effect on the vampire genre and are some movie lovers starting to suffer from Twilight Saga fatigue as we explored not long ago? For some. maybe.

As one of the writers puts it bluntly in the “Love or Hate Twilight?” article, for her Twilight is sucking the blood out of what she likes most about the vampire genre. “So, I’m down with vampire mythology.” says Jillian Lovejoy Lowery, a vampire fan. “I love Dracula (the book, most of the film adaptations), went through an Anne Rice phase, etc. I’m not impervious to the draw of the vampire. But simply put, the Twilight franchise – those ubiquitous young adult novels that inexplicably also make grown women swoon – really sucks. Thanks Stephanie Meyer, for completely watering down all the cool stuff about vampires.”

Harsh? Perhaps, but it is a voice from the other side of the Twilight fence.

For the site’s other writer, Molly Schoemann, it’s a bit more complex from the Twilight Saga books to the Twilight movies. “Movies are a different story; I love trashy movies and I live for Lifetime movies of the week. But where books are concerned, aside from the occasional pulpy bestseller, I like reading good books. So finding myself becoming drawn into the rainy vampire world of Twilight left me feeling conflicted, namely because it invited my long-obscured twelve year old self out of the shadows to frolic.”

You are always going to have haters and people saying it is too hyped and blah blah blah but they also have to realize this isnt just a movie. It all started out as books and has a HUGE fan following. Harry Potter was hyped and still is but has it stopped from being amazing after all these films….nope! Yet again these people underestimate the power of Twilight. It wasnt the new people that just decided to watch the movie or actually read the book that made the movie huge. It was the Twilighters. The hardcore, devoted fans who dont care what critics of the books or movies have to say about it. Even if the media stops paying it attention that doesnt mean the movies dont do great. If anything most fans would love for the media to shut up and leave the actors alone for a while so they can get a break. The only people hyping it up are the people who really dont know much about it. The true Twilighters who have been there before the movie and will be there even after the movies know better than that so let the haters, critics and the others out there who dont like Twilight say what they want but hype cant kill the devotion true Twilighters have.

As a voracious reader I expect and enjoy good writing. The Twilight Saga brought me to a genre I hadn’t thought about….yet. Now i’m searching for good vampire novels, not the blood and guts horrific type but books that have me wondering….what if?!
Twilight didn’t ruin vampire stories for me, it got me hooked on them! Thanks, Stephenie!

When I first known about Twilight was when I watched the news on TV, the scene of Edward rescues Balla from the Van, I didn’t know what the movie was about, I was very skeptic to go watch it because I thought “Oh, another Vampire teen movie” but then I saw those screaming fan on TV and I was curious what was that about and I said to myself “why not?, let’s watch it to see what the hype is about and I thought it probably another teen movie”. Then I watched it and I realized this is not about Vampire movie, this is about forbidden love of 2 couple that portrait as man whom happened to be in a form of Vampire character and a seventeen year old human girl whom is an ordinary girl like majorities of human teen population in this world whom has come of age of dreaming of THE love. That LOVE, addictive momentum and intensity of 2 people that COMMIT to each other of TRUE love, sacrificed and trust while more than 70% of current couple or marriage couple are braked up or divorced because they are never tried harder to keep their relationship together as Edward and Bella did that what gave me a 180 degree from my narrowed mind to opened mind. After I watched the movie, I downloaded eBook to my iPhone all 4 books and I have read it 6 times so far(going to 7th time) and still in love with the series. I get bored with book easily but the Twilight Saga is my 2nd book series that I can read and do not want to put the book down (the 1st was Harry Potter) and I am a middle age women.
