The CullenBoysAnonymous.com and QuileuteWolfPack.com free New Moon DVD Release Party at the Borders in Scottsdale, AZ is our “kick off” event in our effort to raise funds for two very worthy causes-Alex’s Lemonade Stand(fighting childhood cancer) and helping the Quileute Tribe.
Let me introduce you first to Alex’s Lemonade Stand:
CBA and QWP are supporting Alex’s Lemonade Stand through the Fandom Gives Back, a Fandom-wide initiative, created to unite the fans of the Twilight Saga and raise money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand. Many, many Twilight groups will be joining their efforts to raise money for this cause through the Fandom Gives Back. In November of 2009, the worldwide Twilight community banded together to raise more than $87,000 in just 7 days! The FGB is us Twilighters, banded together to do good in the name of Twilight. Who wouldn’t want to support that.
Here is a look at Alex’s Lemonade Stand, the work they do, and a few of other organizations that support them:
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) for Childhood Cancer is committed to finding a cure for all children with cancer. The foundation operates on the principle introduced by our founder Alexandra “Alex” Scott – “when life hands you lemons, make lemonade.”
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation first began in 2000, when a then 4-year-old cancer patient named Alex voiced a simple wish – she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help “her doctors” find a cure for all kids with cancer. The idea was put into action when Alex held her very first lemonade stand on her family’s front lawn in July of that same year. For the next four years, despite her deteriorating health, Alex held an annual lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer research. Alex raised a great deal of money through her annual stands, but in the early months of 2004, she set what to some seemed like an unreachable goal – Alex wanted to raise $1 million. Though her health was failing, Alex was determined to reach her goal, and when her parents asked how she would do it, she just said – “if people all around the country hold lemonade stands and send in their money, I think I can do it.” Alex was right, and during the weekend of her last lemonade stand in her neighborhood, thousands of volunteers of all ages from all corners of the country held lemonade stands, propelling Alex and her cause to reach $1 million. Shortly following, on August 1, 2004 Alex ultimately lost her life to childhood cancer, but her legacy of hope continues to live on through volunteers young and old.
Here is a quick look at some of what they do to support both research and individual families affected by childhood cancer:
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is committed to finding a cure for all childhood cancers. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation has funded over 100 research projects at nearly 50 institutions across the country! In addition to funding cutting-edge research into finding better treatments and ultimately cures, we also fund nursing grants to improve the quality of life and care of children with cancer.
We are also innately aware of the struggles that families face throughout their battle with childhood cancer, emotionally, financially and otherwise, and have created programs to assist them. The Alex’s Lemonade Stand Travel Fund helps families with travel expenses as they travel for treatments that their children need. Our annual Childhood Cancer Symposium for brings childhood cancer families together to learn about the disease, treatment and beyond.
Major donors to Alex’s Lemonade stand include Volvo and Applebees and Rita’s Water Ice. You can see more of their sponsors here.
Thank you for reading all this and please join us in supporting this cause. Contact either CBA or QWP for details on how you can help.
