Breaking Dawn breaking dawn 6414859 1024 7681 300x225 Who Will Be the Next Twilight Franchise Director?

Several news outlets are reporting that Summit Entertainment has approached some world class directors to Direct the Twilight Saga’s final chapter, Breaking Dawn. Entertainment Weekly reports:

Yes, it’s still early days, but Summit is trying to up its pedigree for its big-screen adaptation of the final installment of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series. Sources tell EW that the studio has reached out to at least three top-notch directors, including Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), Gus Van Sant (Milk), and Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) to gauge their interest in what is likely to be two movies. (Van Sant’s reps confirmed that he’s been approached, but Coppola and Condon’s people didn’t return phone calls by press time. Summit declined to comment.)

No decisions are likely to be made until the studio delivers screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg’s detailed outline to the directors. That should happen sometime next week. Until then we can just wonder how these three very diverse directors will approach Bella’s controversial birthing scene.

Who do you think should direct Breaking Dawn?

I haven’t been keeping track with the Saga updates. But I wanted to know if summit has picked to play Renesmee?

I don’t think that role has been cast yet. It’s a hard one because Renesmee grows and changes so quickly. I wonder if they will take a CGI approach to it like “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” people did with Brad Pitt.

For me, I dont really have a name to drop as far as who should be director. I just think especially in Breaking Dawn that the director should really understand the story and understand what the fans want to see. We dont want to see the film drag on about a battle that never even happens in the end, it isnt about the action scenes, we want to see Edward and Bella finally being together, the triangle that was ridiculously blown up in the films to come to an end, and somehow see how they deal with Renesmee’s birth, the controversial imprinting, and like always the Cullens as a family and not just vampires. In other words, they a need a director who really gets it and while I liked Weitz’s visual approach, I just think he focused too much on the action and speeding it up. I never thought I would say that New Moon went by too fast but it did. Too much jump cutting, leaving out entire scenes, and speeding up at times when it should have been slown down really annoyed me. From the time Alice returned to the time of the end credits it was as if it all went by in a confusing blur. If someone watched that movie without reading the books, they would be lost about half of the epic things that happened in the book…..the true intrigue Aro had with Bella and not just for her blood, the family dynamics of the Cullens that could have easily been shown in the airport scene but instead was completely cut out, and then suddenly they are just back in Forks. It went by too fast and that was one of many things that were overlooked in the filming process along with the watered down vote scene. Lets get a director and also an editor who understands that this is about Bella and Edward’s romance and them overcoming their obstacles. BD should show their true happiness when they get married and then the issues that ensue afterward. Whoever can do that in a tasteful manner needs to be the director.

I haven’t really though about all that much. I haven’t seen any of the movies directed by those listed above so…I can’t comment on them! Sorry. I just want the movie made and whoever is going to do that best, that’s who I want.

Rachelle……I started reading your Em and Rose fanfic! Love it! I’ll e-mail you when I’m done. :-)

As earlier said by Rachelle, I totally agree with her comment… I do how ever hope that Gus Van Stan will take the job, and be the best director at it and take his time. Not leave anything out. I feel the movie should be split into 2 movies so nothing is left out. I really don’t think anything should be left out. To much important info. I felt way to much info was taken from New Moon. I just hope David did a better job Eclipse then Chris did with New Moon. My reason for wanting Gus Van to direct BD is because he is from Oregon and He films in Oregon & I live here in this awesome Oregon state so BD would be filmed here. How awesome would that be!!!!

I think David Slade AND Catherine Hardwick should direct Breaking Dawn. She is best at telling the story and he is best at directing speacial effects and would force the needed edginess for us grownups.

Before I nominate Slade, I want to see what he actually does with Eclipse. It is always hard to say yes or no about a director if you havent seen their work. I agree with Hardwicke’s ability to tell the story though.
